Castrol GTX 15/40 diesel oil

does anyone see an issue with running a 15w40 diesel oil in a gas motor? i live in upstate NY where yearly temps can range from 0 to 100. i could reduce the amount of different oils i need to keep on hand, since i buy the oil for the Cummins in bulk. by gas motors, i mean my lawn mowers, car and landscaping equipment.

Should be no problem, I used it 3. 0l Dodge van, 350 Chevy and lawn mower(BS) engine. Switched over to a syn. 0-40 CI for both Dodge and Chevy year round worked good . Use it in the Cummins year round towing and every thing else. Laurie

I've used Rotella in several gas vehicles over the years. My '95 4. 0L Jeep GC with 300K miles loved it.

My brother uses Rotella 15w40, CI diesel oil on his two 55's, a 56 and a 57 T-Birds. Loves it, except for the small. He belongs to a T-Bird club and that's what they recommend.

ok, thanks for the replies. . i had noticed that on all the diesel oil containers i have ever seen, the "star" on the back says for all diesel and gasoline engines, but i just wanted to be sure. .

I ran Amsoil 15W-40 in my Chevy 350's for 8 years until I got my Cummins. Never a problem. Changed the filter every 5k and did a full change every 25k.

Use 15W40 Rotello oil in my Flatheads Fords

I have a few early Fords Model T's, Model A's,33,35,39,50 and 56 Fords and use Shell Rotello in all them. You can't beat Shell oil I have found. Here a picture of my 35 Pickup that I use to deleaver Meals On Wheels for the shut-ins.

AMZ/OIL 15-40 100% Synthetic non LE the good stuff. 99 Tahoe, DR mower, Honda pressure washer, Jacobson mower, Honda 2000 generators. Engines all stay clean. 215K on Tahoe.

I second what KennethS said... I use the Shell Rotella 15w40 in my 1951 Flathead 8BA and it is, by far, the best oil I've found for Flatheads—they love it.

I wouldn't hesitate to run diesel oil in a gas engine. All of my air cooled engines run 15w40 as well as the tired old tbi 350 in my service truck... it helps with the low oil pressure. However, I tend to stick close to manufacturer's specs for viscosity. I wouldn't put 15w40 in something that called for 5w30.

Rotella is popular with old cars since there's enough antiwear additive to support flat tappet engines. I believe most oil we use in our trucks have an "S" API rating... I hear up north there's a 10/30 rotella for cold weather...

10w30 Rotella is available in west georgia as well as up north. I commonly use it in smaller diesels such as Kubota or new holland that call for a 10w30 oil.

I use 15w40 in older stuff that normally takes a 10w30 or 10w40 since the HD oils have better stuff in them.

I also use 5w40 Rotella. In the late model Hondas, I use 5w20 or 5w30 like the manual says. 15w40 is fine for most truck engines I have. On the newer stuff that takes 5w30, I use bulk 5w40 diesel. I still use reason and read the manuals. I've had no issues running 5w40 and 15w40 Rotella in lawn equipment and cars for many years. Its a great fleet use oil, even works great in motorcycles. The 15w40 Rotella has the rating for bikes.

I use Shell Rotella in my PU, my Goldwing Motorcycle, my Tiumph Spitfire, and mowers etc.

Older engines need the Zinc additive to properly lubricate the valve train. Modern car oils don't have the zinc because it messes up the catalytic converters.

By the way the PU has over 420,000 miles without overhaul, runs better than new!!! The others run good too.

I've been running Mobil Del-Vac in all my engines for around 10 years. I've put over 100k on a Yamaha FZ1000 and I have 92k miles on my Suzuki V-Strom 650. . The only thing I don't run it in is the new VVT Japanese car engines( Toyota Avalon) . As they require 5w-30

I've heard diesel oils are great for motorcycles, because of the higher zinc, where rpms are high. I've proven it with two high mileage bikes and a CTD with 255k . I change my oil & fleetguard filter every 10k miles.
