Going to pick up what I will call a gap truck for a few months. I have a 3500 in the que, we think it will be pushed out a bit so going to pickup a 1500. I need something that I can toss some car seats in and my '18 2500 is a company truck no running boards and really is not for that use.

The 5th Gen 1500s look pretty nice I've riden in the back of my one partners a few times down the street for lunch.

It's pretty useless as far as a truck goes, but running the numbers I'm hoping not to lose out too much in the next 5 or 6 months. No one knows really.

It's nicer then what I have on order thinking is just to try to take care of it and trade it back in. Dealer I'm working with is on board with the plan, it's a no lose for them of course. It is the 6th deal we are working on since I get the company trucks from here so will see.

Anyone running a newer 1500 anything to look out for. Here is the AllData sheet for TSB's so far. Nothing scary on the list.

Let the RAM Trade in experiment begin, it's a lot fancier then my 3500 on order.

The Dealer thinks we will be OK with this set up on a Trade in, no real downside for them.

Plus just going to lose atleast or more having it sit in the stock market next 6mo.

It's a pretty nice ride and super quiet. Tech is really cool.

I think that was a win/win for you! You'll have the room that you need while waiting on your build. The tech will be the hardest to loose when 3500 comes in. The only real tech I needed in mine was Bluetooth for radio to stream what I wanted to listen to vs over the air. Found a Bluetooth setup for home theater and mounted in center console. Could use for hands free but mike would work to well in console! The 1500 have come a long way on looks! Nice temp rig!

My current '18 2500 is a Tradesman (which I love the simple radio, rubber mat, work vinyl), the 1500 is a Laramie, the 3500 is a Big Horn Megacab.

The 3500 they would not let us select the work vinyl and carpet delete, the sales person tried, the commercial manager really wanted me to go with another 2500, he was certain that could be built, the 3500 he said good luck hurry up and wait.

I agree the 1500 has a ton more tech its really nice, when I was on the phone yesterday the person I was talking too said it sounded like I was in my office, they have a pretty dialed in Bluetooth deal in this thing.

They are thinking the 3500 might become a '23, it's in D status when he showed me on the computer yesterday. He said what they all were but I did not really recall, if it makes it to D1 before August he was thinking it would be a '22.

We just picked up a '22 2500 136 Promaster and the tech on there is a big jump up from the '21 we got in Dec of last year, the uptick is very noticeable.

When I ordered my 3500 in December I had hoped for a carpet delete, but no such much.

There doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason to order processing time. I ordered on Dec 24th, it was built on May 27th and shipped yesterday (July 5th).

My dad ordered on March 7th, it was built on June 13th and shipped on June 20th.

He ordered 2.5 months after I did and it looks like he will get his truck a couple weeks sooner. Same dealership. Both are 3500 HO Laramies and his has more bells/whistles, but I ordered the night package.

Funny how it all works out.

Do you know about the Ram order tracking website?

Yeah that's pretty random, cool that your truck shipped. Glad I picked this up then, could be a while more, but same time as your Dad could be less.

I do not know about the website. Did not notice that before now. I will see if they can give me the actual order number.

Salesperson just checks for me once a month, or when I'm in. I saw on the 5th forum there is a monster thread you email a person or something it seemed complicated, but it's such a huge thread was kinda info overload and I had gotten good reports back from the dealer and I know it's going to be a bit. Thanks for that info.

I found out about the website a couple months into the order. It’s generally the same info the dealer has, but easier to obtain. The dealer can get some more specifics at times.

This 1500 has been really soild only has 2000 miles. But we have gotten. Good use out of it.

Asked my wife today if she wanted me to keep it and trade in our 2019 Suburban and she said no, the 3rd row and room behind are still nice to have. So I guess I have some work to do on that one.

I'm not a huge fan of the 12" screen. It's way too bright for me, even when dimmed it's just not for me. Guess it has neat features but I'm happy my 3500.will have the 8.4.

Has directional lights when you turn the wheel it lights up left and right on the lower ends that's pretty slick.

The auto high beams are really dialed in, they work really well.

Got word and some updates the 3500 is on the Train was built in early Sept. So might see it later in Oct or Early Nov.

I've had to change to ordering all my vehicles, took delivery of 6 this year and just ordered 7 more for 2023.

Some are hurry up and wait others come quick.

Depends how you hit the build cycle.

So little update on the 1500 experiment. Complete fail, do not pass go, do not collect $200, go direcrly to jail.

Sticker was $67,450.
OTD was $72,000
Wholesale now at $59k
Dealer offer $50k, then bumped up to $50,300.
Which somehow could have equated to $53,350 with some tax deal on the 3500.

So very upside down for sure on this one.

Which is why no one trusts dealerships.

I have 8 vehicles on order with this dealer and have done 7 deals this year, so 15 vehicles total in a little over a year.

Back in July, I went over this with them. Sell me ANY vehicle on the lot I need 2 adults and 2 car seats. I will take exceptional care of this vehicle, I got it ceremic coated and was never going to ask for a dime, because it was a safety net for me on the paint.

We went over the crystal ball and picked this 1500 due to market this and that and it still has a good wholesale number of $59k, but they refuse to budge past the $50k.

I figure they make the $ on the original sale, they make $ on the second sale. then I will of course take a hit on this no worries there it will have depreciation they all do. We all knew that.

Either way, the biggest PITA of this whole mess is they let me drive myself in the stupid 1500 and now I have a vehicle stuck at the dealership, luckily it's only an hour and half.

I did the deal on the 3500.

I will CarMax, or something else with the 1500 to get maybe $58, it has 3347 miles, and is in really good shape.

So no worries first world problems here, they are all nice trucks. Will work it all out.

But no matter how many deals you do, every day is a new day with these folks. Business is business I guess.

I'm not really sure where I "needed" to be on this 1500, there was no magic number for me, but it was the way the $50k was presented and how it this is it, really was a not a hard decision to keep both since it's still like $8k for a few phone calls and internet submissions might as well.

Anyone looking for a nice little 1500 let me know.

But the 3500 is super nice. So it's still a good day. Just hard to drive so many trucks at one time.

So do not follow my lead. There was always risk, not much help here.

@Timd32, Typical run around from a dealership! Sorry to hear that they've done this to you with all the vehicles that you've gotten through them, but it doesn't surprise me in the least! I left dealerships due to the action that would take place within there sphere! I missed the people and not the operations! Hope it'll all work out in short time versus dragging on and on. Will keep it in mind that there's a well kept 1500 out there for sale! :D

I knew there was risk here the values would tank, but they are not tanked and they are just $7k-$9k off the mark, and they tell you yeah we really don't want it back so we are at $50k firm and recommend you do not accept this offer and take it down the road. It's just odd. Do you need a ride down the road we can help with that........

The same $ invested in the SP500 on July 7th is currently down 16.63%, so there is no winning, might as well have some fun with it.

Waiting on the Max Care numbers from that Iowa place. I already bought it from the dealer 7yr/125k $100 deductible, $3800.

They said it was $100 over dealer cost. Will see. Went to the jeep factory warranty site and it was like $4k so better then that site. No one knows really.

Time to enjoy the new truck for sure. This will be over soon.

I have a similar situation, I was considering to sell my 3500 after being damaged rather than repair it and order a 23, but online values are way higher than my local dealer is willing to fork out for a truck to sell today even with me ordering it from them.. We are too far apart right now but he keeps calling, maybe I'll keep playing coy.

I'm going to try the Carmax folks and see how that goes. In NJ you can roll the tax from the trade into the buy, so it's a good hit on what they wound up doing here.

CARP.... DW tasked me with a solar array as my next project
Batteries or just inverters? I always wanted to look into it, but NJ is restrictive on the qty, you can't sell back power, you can off set your usage.

I have dual 200A services so in theory I could make out OK.

But my garage at times is only $5 a month, when not used so peak usage is super low, I would love to run a unlimited system back on service 2 to off set all of service 1 and then make out.

Also most I have run across won't let you run as an island some inverters need the grid reference or shut down.

Hopefully it's better elsewhere.

And with most solar setups, if you don't have a battery bank and power goes out, you'll still be in the dark! It's the so called safety lockout to prevent back feeding. I think that great to protect the workers but, there should be a switch that will let you use your array and not allow current to flow into transmission lines until it see current from the transmission lines! That's been the pitfall in my state. It's not as bad now with outages as it was. It could be bright sunny day with 5 -10 mph wind and power would go out for 3-4 hours! Scanner was quiet for any accidents! I can't get solar as I'm in a hole and not enough solar hours to make worthwhile. That's why I have a 10k backup gen for those times when it's an extended outage. In past, have had many 3-4 day outages and a few at a week! ROI is lots a variables. Don't do a lease if planning on selling in near future as it could bust budgets on some buyers with monthly lease payments.

What's your 10k running for fuel, how have the loads been and costs of a typical outage.

I would have to run Propane we don't have NG around us.

I might go diesel I know thats an option.

I've been looking, for now still doing the old 6500 Honda manual hook up via the dryer plug. Been 9 yrs doing that and we had only a few 3-5 day deals.

The Honda setup is good value, sometimes I wish I went that route as I can take it with me....., I also have a 10k like Topzide running on propane, not portable, but does well when the power goes out and can run well, sewer pump, fridges, everything really, had it out for a week last time and after day two we didn't want to burn our 500g tank out so we would run for a few hours and then shut down for awhile...

Sorry didn't mean to de-rail your post.
