I am ready for my first oil change i bought the Fleetguard filters from Geno's.

I looked in the owners manual and they reccomend 15w40 from 10degree and up.

Is this what most of you run?

Has anyone used the 15w40 Rotella-t from wallmart.

I think most folks run 15w-40. Rotella is a good oil and Wallmart is probably one of the cheapest sources.

A few of us are running 5w-30 synthetic.

That's all I'm going to say to avoid another :-{} .

Anyone care to make a trans mod recomendation?!?!? Oo.

The 15w-40 is good especially with warm days right around the corner. 10w-30 or synthetic equivalent fo rcolder weather.

I second Extreme 1's post Rotella is good oil walmart pretty cheap on oil.

as long as the oil meets the API service ratings for our engines you can use it.

What about straight 30 weight in the summer. I am a Petroleum Engineering technologist, but I don't know everything about motor oil. I do know that the multi-vis oil has lots of polimers in it that don't lubricate - they only enhance the viscosity. Many heavy equipment manufacturers recommend a straight-grade oil in warm weather. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

Blake

I used the AME 15W-40 Synthetic for the first 105,000 miles, then changed to the 5W-30 HDD synthetic. I now have over 139,000 miles and I beleive the HDD 5W-30 synthetic is supurb! My oil analysis reports every 10,000 miles indicate no appreciable wear.

At the risk of boring some of us I nevertheless repeat

Pep Boys Pro-Line Universal 15w-40

meets Cummins spec. for our engines. About $1. 22/qt.

Regular dino oil changed at regular intervals gets the job done to over 400K miles easy. Paul (pwknapp) is proof of that. He brought his truck to the Dallas Dyno event last weekend and had nearly 400K miles on the clock and dynoed about 350HP.

Rotella, Delo, Delvac are all good dino oils and have taken the Cummins 5. 9 to hundreds of thousands of miles with ease.

Don~

fleetguards are great too.

Just changed my oil and tried this STUFF for the first time seems real slick on the fingers and no mater how hard i wipe , it doesnt come off?

same cost as rosmella. . :D

Rotella 15W-40 every 5,000 miles in mine !

Speaking of which, anybody have any comments on those quick oil change plugs in the Geno's catalog (B&M and one other I think) ???

How long have you had it ?

I guess I'm just worried about driving over a snow bank, and having the thing open by itself.

I have the little ball valve from Geno's and love it. No more messing with having hot oil run down my arm while trying to get that big plug out.

If you ever knock that plug off on anything, you've got more to worry about than losing your oil - that is way up in there, away from the ground. And a snowbank wouldn't hurt it anyway. Maybe if you run into the END of a 3 or 4 inch log and jam it up in there, but, like I said, you've got more to worry about then.

Getcha one!
