Competition first pull comin up

well i went to MasonDixon Dragway this past weekend to run the truck for the first time. I was hoping to be in the 15's, but i guess i was a little short :( - the pump wire is not tapped with the comp. I was leaving in 2wd at 20lbs of boost. I broke traction one time, but that was the best time and mph run i had. I was leaving the line like i was sleeping too - best reaction was a . 321. The GB transmission worked great

My goal is to be in the 13-14 sec range. What is the easiest (best) way to get there?

How much time will i gain by tapping the pump wire? - thats the cheapest modification i can do since i already have the comp.

what about 60-80 hp injectors?

i hope i am not getting the horsepower itch

thanks John

You might want to get it looked at. I did 16. 2 at 85 bone stock. Leaving the line with about 10 lbs on the boost gauge

i am sure your 2005 would run faster than my truck to begin with. I really don't think there is anything wrong with my truck. The gauges read good numbers, and the comp. on level 2 sub-level 5 makes a noticible difference over the comp turned off. If i was able to cut a good light - maybe next time i will drink some Mountain Dew - i could get in the low 16's.

13. 7 sec with 100 hp injectors and an hx35 sounds good though - thanks.

I guess i will have to check around for prices and more options.

i have a 99 dually . runs 14. 0 just order bd twins and snow perf. will let you know how it does. try leaving in 4wd it will help your et. in the middle of 2nd gear shift into 2wd. i think you can do it that way with 3rd gen truck too. i would think if you at the track you already have the itch! LOL

I don't think there is anything wrong with your truck either. Tapping the pump wire on a comp, and you are probably looking at another 90hp. The problem is that if you still have the stock turbo (hy35), you will not have enough air for that amount of fuel. Not to mention the EGT's will be very high. Been there done that! :D

Launching in 2 wheel drive is also going to hurt you if you add more power. If you don't have at least a billet input shaft, then do not leave with more then about 10psi (on the high side), in 4x4. Talk to your transmission builder for more info on that.

To run mid 13's you are going to need about 450hp. Doesn't matter how you slice it, that's the hp you will need on a 4x4 truck.

Reaction time doesn't affect E. T's. The E. T. starts when the truck leaves the starting line, not when the light turns green.

Hope this helps...

anyone run with just the comp box on 5X5? i am curious what times that would be at?

also, u guys with the larger injectors, what setting on the comp are u running at?

My goal is not to tap the wire - i have bad feelings about how long the VP will last once it is tapped. I don't have any evidence of shorter life, but bad feelings. I got my Comp for $325 dollars - thats why i bought it.

If you do the input go ahead and do the output shaft also. I just broke mine at 6 psi and only ran it once at the track @ 12-15 psi.

JCutter is right do both input and output shaft i broke mine too. I wouldnt worry about your vp44 it will let you down no matter if you tap the wire or not. Plus its only a grand ,what is that kind of money when you start add everything else up. I havent figured out why everybody worries about there vp 44. but you will have to tap it to get more out of your truck.

When I had Mach 4 injectors (150hp), and the comp on 1x5 it would run 13. 9's. This was with a 15psi 4x4 launch. I also had a Dodgezilla 35/40 hybrid turbo.

do you still have the 150's if so crank up the box. I ran a 13. 1 with what i have in my sig.

Jeremie

I have Mach 6+'s now. Runs an easy 12. 3, with a 15psi launch. I'm working on a traction problem now. I expect to be able to run in the 11's before the year is out. I have the power, just gotta get it to the ground.

I thin k I know where that turbo ended up! :D

Tap the wire (you'll be glad you did) Launch in 4WD (like everyone else said).

Look at my sig for what it takes to run 13. 5.
