My truck sits quite a bit between trips and today I was driving it and got on it pretty hard. When I let off the throttle it seemed to downshift or unlock the torque converter and shifted strange. When I stopped at a light I turned it off and started it again and it ran and shifted normal. I checked for codes when I got home and 1693 and 0217 showed up. I think the 1693 is pretty normal whenever you get any other code so I guess it popped up because of the 0217 code. From the list I looked at 0217 is hot coolant but my truck wasn't hot and never has overheated. I'm thinking that for whatever reason something set the hot code and maybe the downshifting was trying to up the revs to cool the engine (even though it wasn't hot). Anybody had similar experience? I see that a 0216 code could be bad news for the vp44 but should I worry about the 0217? I hate to take it to the dealer but don't know where to go otherwise. I see Autozone will reset codes but if I need a fix I need a diesel shop. :(
