The 1693 code in the ECM says there is a code in the other module (PCM). PCM has little to do with starting other than maybe being in P or N. PCM is on the firewall behind the air cleaner.

Starter contacts?

What is battery voltage reading when you hit the starter?

I have a 2002 pretty modified. I do know I have good fuel pressure. DTT trany. I got the 1693 and it suddenly shutoff. Got it restarted. Drove for about another 1/2 hour shutoff again, 1693 code, would not restart.
I need some ideas of where to start hunting and possible things to look for.

So, is the dealer the only one who can scan the corresponding 1693 code? Mine has set this code 10 times in the last month. Still runs good tho.

Every time we have run across that code it has been ECU replacement time. If the 1693 was set in the ECM thats the code and means the ECM has issues. You will need a reader capable of digging deeper into the DTC's.
