I was all set to buy me a 16cm turbo housing for my 91. Now this truck doesn't have an intercooler. But I read something about egt issues in the archives ?? Would it be advisable to make the switch from the 18. 5 to 16 even if I don't get an intercooler??

EGT's are a function of 3 basic things, air in, air out, fuel supplied.

(not counting transmission, gear used, load etc. )

You can always moderate your EGT's with less fueling, lower gear/higher RPM, or ease up on the throttle.

You shouldn't have any major issues with the 16. It's a good all around housing with a bit faster spooling, a bit more total boost.

I think you should be just fine with the 16cm, plus you don't have to modify your exhaust downpipe too so a change over is a piece of cake.

Hi Steven, we are running basically the same type of beast. I spoke to Piers about doing this change and his advice to me was that it was not that big a benefit to do this. We bumped the timing and increased the rpm's to @2750-2800 before de-fueling. Have not played with fuel settings YET! :D bill

I had a 18. 5cm on my 92. 5. I changed to a 16cm turbo

housing. The boost did not increase at all. Spoolup seems

to be faster. I may have gotten rid of turbo lag. I think it may

move the air a little better. I haven't towed my 5th. wheel

since I put it on so I won't know about EGTS for a while yet.

When I changed from the 18. 5 to the 16cm I saw about 2 1/2-3 psi more total boost and faster spoolup.

There is a difference between the two housings, but it is not as big a change as going from the 21 - 16cm or 18. 5 - 14cm.

That is much more noticeable in response. The good thing with the 16 is that it gives you a good blend of spoolup speed, and less likely to develope high drive pressures when you uprate your fueling and tow.

For what it's worth. . :)

Steve the thing to remember with our trucks is we are not aftercooled so we get a bit better boost than the newer :D 91. 5and up trucks do to start with if you are planning to go with a cooler later onand get a good deal on the housing hey why not, the other thing I was told was our injectors flow more fuel than the "newer trucks" Oo. do stock fwit bill

Thanks

I may go ahead and get one maybe at the end of the week, my boost guage is on backorder. I was going to do all three at the same time(boost, pyro, exh housing. )

Steve:

I agree with Bob. Recent conversation with Piers convinced me that the housing is worth it and will give good service for future mods. My 2 cents.
