Just stumbled upon a great deal on these with brand new tires. My question is will I need new lug nuts as it appears these align on the studs vs hub centric?

Any thoughts or insight appreciated!

If they are like these wheels, then yes, you need coined lug nuts with a large hex. Also make sure the duals inner-face the tapered fit.

Appreciate the information. Going to pass on them at this time as the tire prices are through the roof.

Yes, they are expensive but if you need the capacity they are the way to go. Commercial grade in the 16-18 ply range and as high as 6k weight rated each. I don't much care for that old style wheel thou, I doubt they are rated anywhere near what the tires are.

I used these wheels about 35 years ago on a motorhome dually axle. I aligned them with 4 of the 5/8 x 18 thread coned lug nuts and then installed the first 4 of the flanged lug nuts to 325 ft lb, then the other 4 flanged nuts. A hassle even if you have the lug nuts on hand.

That's what I do on the front of my ford, I removed the coil spring twin I beam axles and installed a mono beam leaf sprung axle out of a 76 Dodge motor home. I like the large flanged nuts, (oem) they seem to hold just fine after alignment. I always figured some owners of those old style Dodge motor homes might not know better and let them bounce all over:-laf

My ford had the same style wheel oem but it used the large tapered lug nuts and the left rear was left hand thread like a big truck.

Can you tell me where I can get one of these rims?
Desperate need for a 1979 Winnebago on a Dodge Chassis.
Thanks

I do have an extra one that I never use, you can have it if you are local or somewhere in the Rocky Mountain States, I travel them all summer and could drop it off somewhere. I really am not interested in shipping stuff.

Hi Nick, by the Rocky Mountain states, do you mean Montana?
I would drive to Montana to meet you and pick it up.
I damaged two off the back of my motorhome when the lugs somehow backed off.
I have my spare rim and if I could get yours I would be mobile again.
Thanks!
Mike

Mike,

I will be in Colorado Springs this weekend at the truck pulls, my brother will be there, he lives in Ashland, Montana and has Fred's Hardware Store, right on the main highway. I will give it to him and he can hold it for you. He also has a tire store so I will get him to dismount the old rotten tire that is on it or maybe I will. Anyway, it will be there Monday morning, he is open from 5:00 to 5:00 M/F and 5:00 to noon Saturdays. Ask for Fred, 406-784-2393

Nick how much do you want for the rim?
Mike

You can have it for free. I just dismounted the tire because I was worried the wheel might be rusty from laying outside flat for many years, here are some pic's. I think it is usable if it is cleaned up some or use a tube. If you have very far to drive it might not be worth it. The choice is yours, let me know.

Nick I would be driving from Calgary, Alberta - according to Google maps it would be a little over 10 hours to Ashland.
Other than yours I am trying to convince one other guy to ship me one. Very hard to find in Alberta so I think I have to do the drive.
I am not ready to retire my old motorhome ...
Thanks
Mike

I could also get it to Livingston, Montana, I have some relatives there, also with a tire store, that would be about 2 or 3 hours closer if that would help. I could have it there about 8-31. All Service Tire, ask to see Terry. I think they are open M/F, 8-5. Let me know. It's no problem either place.

Wow, what great generosity and friendly behavior, I sure do love the TDR and the people it attracts.

Hope you guys also enjoy and read the printed TDR magazine as that's where it all started and continues...

Thanks Nick but I think I would prefer Ashland next week. I would like to get my motorhome mobile again as soon as possible.
Have a great weekend at the truck pulls !!
Mike

Dang sorry I was on the road, I assumed you would want the closer pick up and did not bring the wheel this trip, when I get home I will check back with you. Nick

Mike, I should have it in Livingston 9-1-2015, I will try to get to a computer about 8-29 and advise you with an update.

Nick

Mike, are you still interested in that wheel? I will be leaving for Powell, WY. on Wednesday morning.
