I have a 05 in my shop that we put a pacbrake on last year brake works great but keeps setting mil 1740. talked to pac 4 months ago and did all the test they asked and cleared mil everything seamed fine until last week. light came back still works, shifts, runs fine. I have searched all the post I can find but can't come up with a fix maybe you guys can. truck is stock w 7700 miles no boxes, DL, just the brake.

OEM Trans?Dodge never ok'd brake with that trans. The software was not 100% to work with the e/brake. Most aftermarket t/c's will set that code as well.

yes all stock just the brake. I know its not approved but thats from a company that would complain about wax and aftermarket wiperblades!

I cant tell customer to live with the light.

I have the PacBrake on my '05 with a BD Overdrive Lockout. And, I have this P1740 code resident but the light gave up the ghost. The code seemed to set when only when I used the OD Lockout and then shifted out of OD lockout at speed. I have not been able to clear the code.

I posted a question on BD's web site requesting first technical support and then reposted the question to customer support. Neither question was responded to by BD.

I first got this code before my PacBrake was installed, so, for me, it is a BD related problem. But, I cannot seem to get a response from them.

I'd love to be able to provide the information to my shop so they could clear the code permanently or deal with the symptoms causing the code, specifically whatever problem may exist within the transmission.

dodge tsb 21-006-07 is a od delete. might help you with your mil light then you could get rid of the bd part. but I could be wrong:D

A lot of Dodges get the 1740 code. The difference is that the Federal Emissions trucks generally do not set a check engine light whereas the Ca emissions trucks do.

When the computer commands the lock up signal it is looking for a gear ratio change. If it fails to see that gear ratio change it will set that 1740 code.

It is telling you that your converter clutch is slipping.

It will also set a 1740 code if it sees a lock up signal and it is not supposed to see one. Reason like a lock up switch, transmission controller ect in your case the exhaust brake controller. Another cause can be a more efficient TC .

1740 Code

Stefan,

Thanks for that info on the CA trucks. I've been throwing that 1740 code all the time since I put in my new DTT transmission and shift enhancer. I've been very easy on it because I didn't want anything to happen to it. The transmission is awesome and it is the best thing I've put in the truck. The DTT transmission rips.
