anyone have one laying in the top right drawer of their tool box?

maybe someone thats ve has been privledged enough to have met the mighty GL?

lol... . just kidding dude

i am sure many on here have pitched the afc...

'its the way to go... if ya dont tow'

i may have went too aggressive with the new profile on my pin (for towing)

would be more than happy to help you clean out your junk box

would think $100 would be a fair offer

still have one question about the 187 dollar model - the profile is very conservative, until the diaphram over powers the spring. but how much boost does that take??? if 5 pounds bottoms the thing out then it probably wont be any different than my agressive one... ???

thanks in adv

Uhm, Don, just turn the pin so it rides on an area that is not ground. Or you could tighten up the spring to hold it up. Mine is ground for performance, but while towing, its turned to a stock profile.

I've learned on thing about diesels, EGT's are not from too much fuel, just not enough air!!!;)

Michael

michael, do you know what the boost range is for the multi colored spring?

back side of mine is still stock, but i kinda wanted to play with a 'better than stock' profile and i cant do anything to the back after what i did to the front... lol

wonder what the installed ht of that spring is and what the compressed ht is as well...

I have a valet switch installed and an aggressive home grind on my pin as well. When I was towing, I kept the valet off to keep from overboosting the fuel. (after I tried it once. )

I have an HTT Stage II 58mm compressor and it will not make enough air under 2k rpm no matter the load. Once I get to 2k it really wakes up. I like the compromise between top end power and spooling.

just for fun, I have my AFC spring at its least compressed (starwheel bottomed) When I hit the valet switch at 5 psi I get full fuel. I need to bring that wheel up so I don't fuel so soon. My target is around 15, that way I won't smoke out the locals around town, but it will be there when I need it. ]

Ken, yours fuels at about 5 psi? I've got my starwheel all the way down, and at 10-11 psi is when I notice it really comes on.

I was watching boost, and kept flipping the switch on at different boost levels. Of course, this was before I put in the 370's, which throw all calculations (and EGT'S) out the window! :-laf

Im thinking at least 10 psi on mine and closer to 15 probably.

I have actually raised it back up since then for a little less smoke when around town.

$187. 00??? For an aftermarket one? The local Bosch authorized only wanted $98. 00 for an OEM one when I last checked. Old Smoky is selling his for $124. 00.

I've been looking at the ol' smokey pin... I don't really want to grind the stock pin incase I ever want or need to go back for some reason, does it really make a big difference? Sorry I feel stupid for asking, but I just got my 92 and have a lot to learn from ya'll... Also exhaust recommendations would be great too...

40 horsepower is the claim, I doubt that's real rearwheel HP though, I could be wrong. That's pretty good for $125 or if your up to it, grinding your own for nothing. I thought the same on the DIY grind.

4" mandrel bend exhaust. I bought a 4" system with a 3. 5" downpipe thinking I would fab my own 4" downpipe. I recommend you do just the opposite. Buy a mandrel bend 4" DP and get the rest at your local truck parts supply.

4" mandrel DP from Stan's or ? I forget the other, someone else will hopefully chime in...

5 psi fueling

I think mine is probably fueling early due to overly aggressive first attempt at grinding the pin. I would taper it more next time and not go quite as deep.

Ken

When I ground mine I tried to ramp it easy then drop fast at the end. The pin doesn't even touch the cone at full depth.

the ends on the pin are radiused

maybe the radius is touching a lower area of the cone?

or maybe your pin is hangin up

dunno

but the pin will go all the way to the rear of the bore if you try to run it with no cone

it will haul butt like that but the pin has a taper and the o-ring will leak

Pete, our grinds sound similar. Which injector were you using before the 370's? I am running PODs.

My grind isn't deep enough to make anything leak, but upon testing with the top removed, I can see that the afc internals bottom out with the guide pin not touching my grind on the fuel pin. It works, it fuels, but I could have made it more gradual. The bottom 1/8 inch of travel does not buy me any more fuel.

Ken

Once the afc lever is pulled from the pump top, all the afc (ground cone/pin, starwheel etc) no longer does anything.

I know what I gained by going from a half ground lever to full ground lever. This spring I look forward to seeing how it will act with no lever:).

Ken, mine is the same way, nothin' in the last 1/8! I had stockers in, 370's made a world of difference! :-laf
