I now have 19.5 inch Rickson steel wheel/Bridgestone M729 tires for my truck. Each wheel/tire combo weighs 138 lbs. I have several questions about the spare:

1. What is the weight capacity of the spare tire mount (the structure and the cable)?

2. Has anybody carried a 19.5 inch spare long-term on the mount without any problems?

3. Can a 19.5 inch spare be postioned on the mount such that it won't hit a Mag-Hytec axle cover?

Thanks in advance for the responses.

Bob,

I haven't measured the diameter yet, but suspect it will physically fit (tail pipe is stock). Further, I suspect it can be pulled toward the bumper and anchored there with some chain wrapped around it and the hitch receiver tubes. Even that far back, I wonder if it might hit the diff cover if the suspension's pushed down far enough (I have air bags installed)? The only time I'll run the tires is when I haul our 5th wheel, so the spare won't fit in the bed then (have a tool box/tank combo in the bed already). I'm still very concerned about the stock lift cable being able to hold that weight.

Can anybody with personal experience in this matter comment?

Steve,
when you get tired of hearing from me let me know. :)
IF you are only going to run the 19.5's when pulling the 5er why not mount the spare on the 5er?
bumper mount somehthing like this?

Just another option.

measure the mounted diameter then measure how far from the back of the diff cover to the back bumper/hitch to see how much room you have (or don't) to mount underneath.

I have close to 2 million miles on trucks with 19.5" tires and rims... several Dodges, and a couple of Fords... 3500, 5500, F350, F550.... and in all those miles with the safety factor of the 19.5 we never had a flat or blow out that I'm aware of... we ran new on the front and recaps on the rear.... we used the stock spare... and often sold trucks with the new tire/wheel still mounted under the truck.. .with 400K miles on the chassis.... we'd change them out before the stock factory tires were worn out...

I know own a 3500... and the factory crank won't hold the weight nor will the larger tire I run fit into the wheel well... I'm running a tire that 100% corrects the factory error in the speedometer...

Hope this helps....

My 2006 Mega has no problem with the 19.5"/Toyo 608z. Weight unknown. However, with the SuperHitch I can only store the spare tire with zero air pressure. I'm running an Air Zenith compressor.
