I just put on some used rickson rims with 225/70R19. 5 Goodyear G195s. When put on at the truck tire place, they just put in the PSI stamped on the side of the tire(95psi). I know there has been much discussion on the tire pressures for 16" wheels. Does someone have first hand experience to share on what seems to be good tire pressure settings for the 19. 5 tires.

Thanks,

Bob Caldwell

This works for me!!

I have 22,000+ miles (with 19k5 rubber) on my 01 3500 now and under normal day to day, daily driver conditions when not towing or hauling real hard, 55psi in the rears and 60psi up front with the RS9000s dialled in has been pretty comfortable and the tires are wearing well, IOW, you wouldn't know that they've done any miles!!

When I load up the camper, the RS9000s and the airbags get re-dialled in and the tire pressures go upto 65psi all around. The CAT scales told me I was once right on 12,500 pounds, ahem... . a little on the heavy side, but it felt rock solid and the sidewalls don't even break into a sweat. The 19k5 combo generally improves the handling, that you may be tempted to push the envelope in some respects.

Good luck.

Basically, what John said. I've got the same TY303 225/70/19. 5s on my truck. I run ... 55 rear and 65 front, unladen. Those pressures seem to yield the best handling. 62 in front is a little too soft, as the tires tend to slide a bit too much in hard turns (like running a 15 MPH hairpin turn at 25-30!) Any more pressure in the rear and the outside edges of the tread don't contact the pavement.

I haven't done any brake stands lately, but the tires don't seem to be walking on the wheels any more, since Matt and Dan used the new 'glue' when they re-did my tires last time. With the powder in them, they are staying as balanced and smooth as I can expect from a truck - that is, the ride is a little harsher than Dad's Town Car, and it has at least twice the range!

As to your tires, start at 65/55, and check the tread contact and handling in general. In 10K miles, you should be able to find the 'best' unladen pressure for your tires. Then when you apply a load to the truck, air up the tires so the 'bulge' looks about the same. A few short runs should let you dial in the laden pressure. Then write down them pressures for future reference.

I've got 75K on the tires now, and there're still lots of tread left. I might get 120K out of them, might get more. Time will tell.
