I am hoping to pull the trigger on some 19.5" wheels and tires in the next month.

I am going with the Vision Type 81's in black and a 245/70/19.5" tire.

My tire choice is down to the M608Z from Toyo or the G-622 RS from Goodyear.

The big benefit to the Toyo is that there is a Les Schwab everywhere around here, and not as many Goodyear dealers.

Does anyone have experience with either, or both?

My 4500 came with the G-622s all the way around. I have 38K miles and not showing any noticeable wear. Good traction. You can't go wrong with it. My truck weighs 12k unloaded so the ride is pretty good with that kind of weight. I have them rotated/balanced every 10K miles $80 at Goodyear Truck Tires.

It seems the 622s are going to be harder to get, which may or may not be an issue with service and/ rotations. That has me leaning more towars the 608z's. I have always heard good things about the 622s thou.
 
I didn't see a tire pattern I liked. I want an open shoulder with a fairly aggressive tread. I have heard good things as well.
 
That is a good looking tire, but I think the M608z is a little more aggressive. It's also a LRH tire, how stiff is it? I would prefer a LRF tire for stiffness and traction on dirt, but haven't seen one in a 245 so a LRH seems really stiff.
 
The LRH is in fact too stiff for me, but it is what came with the wheels I bough used. Next time I will definitely go with a larger 245/70/19.5 LRG or LRF, as either would handle the 8200# unloaded truck just fine and still leave plaenty of room for hauling.
 
I agree LRH is too stiff, even LRG is more than I need but not many 245's in a LRF with a decent tread pattern.

I weigh about 8200-8500 empty depending on what emergency items and such I have in the tool box.
 
I have had both the Toyo m608 and the Michelin xde2 in the 245/70r19.5 on my trucks. I'm torn between the two tires, both have performed well for me. The xde2 is easier for me to get for me locally, one of my shops has offered a Goodyear g622, Dunlop sp461, and westlake cm986. Does anyone have any feedback on the latter tires?
 
I have heard lots of good things about the G-622, but it's harder to get locally than the Toyo. It is a little cheaper too.

I currently have the Toyos you are contemplating. While i can't speak to it compared to the goodyear, it was a 100% improvement in ride coming from a set of Double Coin RLB900's which were 12ply, the M608Z i have is 14ply. The "tread wiggle" is a tad more noticeable on this style of tire when grossing 30k over the ribbed/partially ribbed tire styles. Unloaded this is unnoticeable and you feel glued to the dry pavement.

The traction is aggressive and the ride is fairly quiet with just a hair of howl at lower speeds. I had mine sipped in the center and i can't spin these on the wet ground like i could the double coins.

So thumbs up for the toyos on the Ram, and I shouldn't be shocked since they have served me well on the tour buses for hundreds of thousands of buttery smooth miles.

The siping is something I am not sure on. On LT tires it destroys the tire with all the dirt road driving I do, so I am not sure it would help on the 19.5's. I know many people who have had good luck with siping, I'm just not one of them.

I've found that the only slight issue I've personally seen with siping is on some steer axles, on certain tire brands, we have had some minor chipping. Seems the harder rubber will do this. I've seen this on Continental HSR and HDR, but not on softer rubber like Michelins or Bridgestone.
My personal opinion would be to buy a tire with softer rubber, since you'll be using a truck that is much lighter than what these tires are capable of handling. Michelins in 245 size may cost you around $500 each. Not sure, since I don't buy that size. Take a look at Sailun brand. Yes, they are made in China. They are also half the price of Michelin, are holding up twice as well as Continental, and seem to be holding up equally well to the Michelins I've been using. I have them on heavy front axle biased Isuzus, and on our 5500 Ram, all with 19,500 GVWR. Our guys say they grip better than the Bridgestones they replaced, and we are dealing with very cold, snowy roads right now.
Do your own research and buy what you feel fits your needs best..just throwing something out there that most people automatically reject, like I did at first...
 
I hate to hi-jack a thread but I have very good friend who runs a tire shop and ordered a set of aluminum 19.5 for 3500 dodge drw by mistake and get send them back If any of you have need please pm me and I will get you in touch.
 
My truck is a drw, but I run it as singles, I believe I got about 60k or so out of my first set. It has been several years since I have run toys.
