Does anyone know if 19. 5s on front only (clearance issues on rear) would screw with my 4 whl drive because of the difference in diameter?:eek: (of course it would, no it wouldn't):-{}

If you get a tire for the 19. 5's that is the same height as whatever you have on the back it will not hurt anything, all your tires need to be the same height or you will tear up your transfer case.

circumference or revolutions per mile has to be the same or you will end up with gear binding in your transfer case... ... (Not a good thing).

As long as whatever combo you wind up with= 235/85/16 (If I remember is the correct size for a 99 3500?) as an over all diameter for the entire truck than you have no problems (Except rotational issues) scarlton , EShaw Nailed it . That would be one serious low profile tire A and B good luck finding such a small size in a 19. 5.

225/75/19. 5 appears to be the "shortest" tire readily available. Go to Rickson's site and you can find the specs on diameter and revolutions per mile. HTH

Dean,

If you have clearance issues on the rear, then you obviously can't get the same diameter tire on front and rear. Therefore you can't use 19. 5" wheels because the rolling diameter must be the same for front and rear.

Actually, you can use them. You just can't use them in 4WD. If you disable your transfer case shifter (remove the connecting rod, for example), you can leave the truck in 2WD and use any tires you want. They don't even have to match right-to-left, although that will cause some problems with the differential turning more than necessary.

If you engage 4WD with different tire sizes front and rear, and if you're lucky, the truck will just stop as the drivetrain binds up, or perhaps one or two tires will skid periodically as you drive. If you're not lucky, something will break.

Don't do it.
