Does anybody know a brand and part no. for a 190 degree thermostat for a 98 12v. All I can find is 180 degree. They make a 190 for 98. 5 that has a o-ring around the edge but I don't think I can make it work. Last year I got one from Cummins but their books could not tell me what value it was. When I put it in my engine run even cooler. The temperature gauge just barely make it in the normal range when the outside temperature is 19 degrees. I think the one from Cummins is 160 degree.

Join the club, I am also in the middle of figureing out why the truck is running to cold all of the sudden... ... . you have 2 options, buy the one on a online parts store for $100 claims to be a 190..... or go to Napa and buy a stat for a '73 dodge charger 440, $10, it will be a 195..... after all the neg reports on the 180 stat I am not going to run it, if I change stats I am dropping in the 440 stat with a small hole drilled in it.

my truck used to warm up and run solid at 190 and not hunt like the other guys report.

you want a cummins 190- 3928499 stat but they are all gone..... I have looked high and low for 2 days non around that I can find... .

have you pulled your stat and looked at it? I ask as I assumed mine was hung open and when I pulled it it looked fine and was closed tight, I ran it in the kitchen pot with my gauge and it cycled twice perfectly, cracking around 170 full open at 190 or so... . ran cool water in the pan and it closed nice... ... threw it back in and still not making heat after a drive on the highway... . clutch fan is the next check for me mine feals fine and spins how i think it should, has nice resistance by hand and spins for about 3 seconds after shuttdown from a idle and stops... I am blocking the radiatore tonight after work and see what happens.

fyi, saw a trick on the net, you dont have to pull the belt, just pull the lower bolt on the alt and tip it back towards the battery

Peace, B.

I cant help you with t stat numbers but i also run a 190 on my truck and even in 30 degree weather it will not even run close to temp without my winter fronts. I understand thats not what your after just something to keep in mind when you pop a hotter stat in and still cant maintain temp

The low mark on my 94 temp gauge looks like it should be 160 by looking at the hash marks. It is not it is an actual 180 degrees
