Intercooler and aftercooler?

I ran across an article in the May 1950 issue of Popular Mechanics, page 99, which mentions the planned use of a six cylinder Cummins diesel in the Indianapolis 500 race. There is a picture of the engine block in the car but not a lot of detail. The article suggests that the engine was to be supercharged. Do any of you diesel gurus have any good pictures of this beast?

You can see the actual Cummins Indy race cars at the Indy 500 museum at the race track. When my wife and I attended the last TDR rally held at Columbus IN. we took a day trip up to the race track and toured the museum.
This is another very good reason to attend next year rally for TDR that will be held in Columbus IN at the Cummins plant.
