Catalyst Problem? I Need Help!

ok, enough snow already

This thing is in an OLD forklift. The dist. quit turning. Turns out the gear is stripped of the bottom of the dist.
Gets worse.
The gear that drives that gear is stripped also.
I would think this explains the miss!

This a strange set-up, I suppose you guys that have seen them know what I mean.
Dist. is an Auto-lite 1 AY 4007 A1 7 K If that helps.

Any help, hints, clues, parts would be greatly appreciated.
Or is it time for a Deutz?
Thanks,
Gene

MGM, there is a place in Pennsylvania named Colemans. They deal heavily in surplus. They might have one.
Have you ever seen Truckers buying guide, or TNT ? Both are trade publications that I have seen Continental engines in. As far as parts... . I dont know.
I gave away a lot of literature on all of this last week. #ad
so I dont have any phone numbers.
If you can wait another 3 weeks or so, I can give you more info.
Maybe a search on the above will come up with something?

MGM, I used to run a service van for a caterpiller forklift dealership. If my memory serves me correctly I think I have a dist. out of an old towmotor. I will look in the garage in the morning. If it si still there and no. s match you are welcome to it.

I appreciate that Plowboy!
Does anyone know how the dist. mounting/drive unit comes off?
It sticks out of a cast unit bolted to the front of the block, comes straight back beside the block, and then the dist. sits down it it there.

Yep, your right! Industrial models have a side mount dist. with a remote cam to run it. There is a cap on the head where the dist goes on normal applications.
Now the question is:"What do I need to watch for while tearing that thing out. "
???????????

Continental engines were used in army trucks, welding machines, construction equipment etc. Old forklifts are few and far between, try looking for an army truck wrecker, got cylinder head for a continental powered welding machine that way. Also try a engine rebuilder that specializes in industrial engines, they can usualy find parts for these old engines.

MGM, I looked today for the dist. that I thought I had, but all I could come up with is one for a 4 cyl allis fork lift. Sorry for the mis leading information I had posted earlier. I should have looked before I posted. Shannon

MGM, give NAPA a try. A few years ago I got a crank and bearings, for a Cont. 4 cyl. in an old Clark, from them. You will need the engine number.

continentals were commonly used in tractors... try a tractor wrecking yard.

The engine info can probably be found in old Motor's manuals.

I dunno where in Pa ya are, but call Modern Handling in Williamsport Pa, Ask for Butch in parts, he can probably help ya.

Just wondering- is this the same Continental Motors that builds aircraft engines? Maybe a airframe and powerplant rated mechanic could help you- check @ your local airport.

A freind who works on forklifts says that the large counterweight on the back is the bugger. Can weigh 2000 to 8000lbs and have rusted mount bolts. Pull the front of the engine off and the side plate. The cam should come out after you pull the timeing gears and rotate the cam as you pull. Make sure of TDC before you pull timing gears. The Continental was used in other applications also, gen, tractors, and boats. Industrial salvage yards in the area is where I would start checking for parts.
