Any factory equipped diesel ½ ton and smaller trucks out there?

Katrina and prices -- place your bets

Took a little trip to see the elevator mechanic on Sunday, only at his house and not business oriented. He lives SW of Sedalia on Jackson Creek Road in the mountains.

He showed me his 1954 Allis Chalmers road grader he uses to grade his 1/2 mile long drive. It's pretty cool! It's powered by a Detroit 4-cylinder two stroke (that's what he told me) and it is all gear driven except for the hydraulic assist on the steering. It is old, beat up, but still drives good and if you don't watch it while you engage the levers they will jump back and forth and want to tear your arm off!

Kind of cool to see a working 50 year old construction machine.

I've got a guy clearing brush on my farm with a 1955 Allis Chalmer HD5G track loader/dozer. It's powered by a 2 cylinder detroit 2 stroke but it was actually made by GM at that time. It's a working little dude. I want one of those engines to put in and old Farmall H tractor that I've got. I like listening to that little dude working.

I have a 50 year old piece of American iron that I drive ALL the time. I really love the old stuff. Click on the link in my signature...

American Iron

Well years ago on the farm we were able to borrow a 56 IH 190 10 yd box truck. It had the 401 engine and 5x4 trans. Sure taught me how to drive and yes it had armstrong steering got my thumb pushed back into my elbow several times. (ouch ) ;) Hauled over 7000 yds with it, 17 loads in one day. Also had a JD-420 dozer with Char-Lin winch. The old stuff was built to work hard and to last.

Yeah! they call them knuckle busters,I've never operated one, but have heard stories from the guy that trained me you really got to watch out for the levers. I'll stick with my 2001 Volvo 720G with the 8. 3 Cummins 205hp. All though I have not had any problems with the Cummins engine I have had some problems with the Volvo part, mainly the turn table locking up here lately. I had a Cat 12G before the Volvo that was a really good grader and still going strong with over 13K hours on the clock. Currently operating a Cat 14G while my Volvo is down, its a little bulky doing finish work though. :D

Ill stick with my adams leaning wheel grader for my driveway. It was bought new by my county's highway dept back in the 1880's. It has been modified to be puled by a tractor instead of a team of mules. It still works just fine, and it could use a new cutting edge, but I dont think TSC has one.
