If you have the money...

What's everyone think? I call B.S

What turbo diesel is a good candidate for swapping into my stock 57 Willys? It has the flathead Hurricane six. I'm not really interested in changing out the drive train. It has a spring over lift and the warn overdrive.

Thanks, Shadrach. I'm pretty sure the 6BT is way too big. The stock flathead is pretty heavy. I'm wondering if anyone had swapped a 4BT into one of these old trucks. The front axle is a Dana 27 and the rear is a Dana 30 as I recall.

You gonna leave us all hangin' like this, Nevada?

Pictures, pictures, pictures!

You can build up a 4BT pretty good these days, too.

And don't forget the Rockwells!

I highly doubt you'll find a diesel that mates to the bell housing of your transmission. At the very least I'm guessing you'll have to include transmission and transfer case in your swap. Then when it comes to axles even a 4BT can rip apart a DANA 30. I'm certain that truck could be re-powered, but I don't think you're gunna do it without changing some drivetrain as well. $0. 02

If a 6B won't fit use a 4B. Depending on how much power you want ( or need ) will determine which version to use. For simplicity sake use a non air to air intercooled engine. Shadrach

A Cummins QSB3. 3L would fit nicely, only about 500 lbs, good power, but it's new on the market (US) has a ECM and comes with a SAE4 housing. Adapters could be made to adapt to most transmissions. The factory frame could probably handle the weight and torque as a daily driver.

The Cummins 4BTA3. 9 will fit, but you would have to replace the entire drive train and the frame, IMHO.
