1970 2 1/2 ton internation 4x4

has anyone had one of these truck with the coleman front and are they any good. I tried to look the front axle up on the internet no luck. the truck i have is a factory 4x4 and is a 1700 with those star like hubs. truck is in very good shape, we where going to cut is up and use the running gear for a swamp buggy,when i got it i thought it had a rockwell front but found out later it was a coleman. i have never herd of this type of running gear,any info would be great.

The coleman axles are a little hard to find parts for. When I was in the A. F. we had trouble getting parts and that was threw the orginal mfg. So going as an aftermarket purchaser might be rough.



They did seem to hold up good. But when we needed parts. It was a problem.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T CUT THAT TRUCK UP!! These are some of the best trucks ever built, IMHO. My old man is an IH buff from way back, and we have had more than a few, including Travelalls, pickups, and right now we have a 1968 truck that used to belong to the Chicago Fire Dept. We did a frame-off, and the truck is mint, with less than 7,000 miles. We also have a 1970 2WD that has been through hell and back, we just ran throught the engine and everything is cool. Dad is on his way back from Cali right now with a '73 Scout my 17-year old brother just bought.

i do have one question is the front a coleman or a rockwell in these trucks. if anyone would like to purchase this truck please let me know. the cab is in good shape and everything works on the truck,it has a flat bed now but it has somekind of pto on the transfercase and it runs but needs a tune up it is a 1700 4x4 on the tag inside the drivers side door,please hurry hunting season is coming and we will be using this running gear if i can't find some top loader rockwells or as i call them L-drive from a duece and 1/2.

A friend with a '68 3/4T IH pickup always had a terrible time finding any parts whatsoever for her truck. This was before the "internet" age though, I would imagine with some searching parts could be found nowdays. It was a pretty cool truck, had a big 6 sound pretty torquey, but was geared low and got lousy mileage (usually 9-12).

this truck has a 345 v-8 i think, i do have a friend that used to do truck pulls with these little motor good tq but not alot of rpm. put the word out it for sale or it will be a buggy

The front is a coleman. The only rockwell front ends I have seen from that age had plantery hubs on them. That is another pain in the $$$ to find parts for. LOL

What kind of tires do you plan on running on your buggy? It

would be kind of interesting to see what people from different

areas use for purpose built off road use.

we will use rice and canes they are a very agressive v pattern like r-1 from firestone 5 to 6 feet tall and two or three feet wide
