I bought this pickup new in late 1969. For years it was my only vehicle so it was a daily driver/tow truck, and I used it hard. Over the years it has had several engines, transmissions and rear axles. When it and my oldest son both turned 40, I gave it to him. At the time it had a 427/454 FE engine, C-6 out of a 1972 F-250 4x2 and a Dana 60 rear out of a 1970 Ford F-250 4x2 with 3.73 limited slip. The original pickup came with a 390, truck 4 spd. and standard 9" rear with 3.50 gears and open carrier.
He has been working on it for the past 8 years and is getting closer to finishing it. He dropped the rear with springs and re-installed a 9" rear axle, dropped the front with spindles and cut 2 feet out of the frame and bed:{ The engine is at the machine shop with 8 sleeves installed, it had some damage on two holes that would not clean up. The block was already at .030 over, the most you are allowed with this block, so he had to start over. He will retain the 428 crank (3.98) 427's used 3.78 stokes. Standard bore is 4.23 so he will probably go with 4.25 pistons commonly available on the shelf with the 428 crank combo in a 427. He is looking at the JE 12.5 to 1 compression pistons. He has a new set of Trick Flow CNC heads for it. The carb, intake and cam still have to be determined yet.
This is the pickup back in the mid 80's drag racing at Phoenix Raceway Park. Note the JR West Coast Mirrors, CB Antenna's and Channel Iron Rear Bumper with Mud Flaps, all slowing me down :-laf It had the 427, top loader close ratio 4 speed out of a 1969 Torino and an old D-60 with 4.56 gears.
This what it looks like now. Original paint color (Royal Maroon) my middle son is the painter.
