We did one in 87. It is certainly do-able. Take the time to fit the firewall (a few well planned smacks with a hammer) as tight as possible for weight balance and clearance up front. Stay with the Dodge drive parts all the way. My brother drove the truck 125k miles and then I drove it another 150. I sold it to a farmer who drove it till the transmission (muncie) died. The engine is still under the barn at his place. We now have a later model (but not much) GMC that is fwd and cummins. We raised the cab and bed about four inches and that simplified the clearance issues completely. On the first conversion, we bought mounts from Cummins but on the GMC, we put the engine in with the Dodge mounts in place and fitted the metal parts to close the gap to the cross member. Do this with the fenders off and it is a snap. Well, everything is easier the second time.
