Is there a trick to installing a new mechanical fuel pump? The old one came off easy and it's been so long since I did one I forgot the procedure! Do I try to push the plunger rod back with a screw driver or bump the starter to take the pressure of the rod? I can't amember! Thanks Grady

put some heavy grease on the rod and push it up. should stay long enough to slip the pump back in there is another way,try this first. Pete.

There is a 3/8 bolt threaded in the front of the block for no apparent reason on the fuel pump side. Remove it, thread a longer bolt in by hand while holding the rod up. The bolt will hold the rod up while you install the fuel pump. After you have the pump installed, remove the bolt and install the original bolt.
