Interesting Electric Truck

1500's

Hi all , I bought this truck from my neighbor with only 129k on the clock. It didn't get used much. Trans whines and goes with the speed. Worse if I don't lockout the OD. I just did a fluid change with a mopar filter. No change. It's an A500 trans. Runs and shifts great

Cool, they look like smaller 47RE, do they still have that massive spring in the OD? I remember rebuilding mine, I picked up a special tool to use in the press to hold the spring and be able to release safely.

I really should finish my rebuild.

Off subject but was also doing transmission work today on my '63 Willys. Pulled the pressure plate and clutch out, did not find anything good in their just more work.... No one said it was easy.

Kinda missing a pilot bushing and some interesting heat marks on the flywheel.

There have been cars without a pilot bushing, usually low horsepower, low torque applications.

But no clue if a '63 Jeep is one of them.

I paid a shop to put the bearing in. Did watch some youtubes and they used a press on part of it. Yeah you have your work cut out for you.

Glad they did the OD for you. It's a pretty massive spring in there, not super hard but with out the tool it could get interesting for sure makes it easy.

I got the rest apart tonight, I have a new bushing and it looks like it will go back together. No sign of the other old one. Very odd.

Looks good Tim. Yeah couldn't get od in, feels like the shaft is hitting something in the rear. I'm going to run it up to him tomorrow have him put his lineup shaft in and double check that it's all in line.

Yeah that tool/modified shaft stays in for a long time during install. I had to get one of those too. I forgot about that.

I did find this note on my install sheet from Goerend. It's early in the process of reassembly just something to check. But it easily could just be one shifted a bit. It looks like they are under that spring pressure.

There are also 2 selective washers if that's not the issue, but it probably is just that.

This just shows that tool for the spring for reference.

It could just be the alignment of the disc's and having that shaft twist them a bit. When they put that tool/shaft they will know for sure if it goes all the way.

Well I didn't take it to them , I called and he says it should go in , I said it wasn't even touching the parking Pawl. I did put the driveline in and turned it but no help. I'll mess with it tomorrow afternoon.

Well I pulled out the OD and dropped a shaft dorn to the bushing and marked it in relation to the face of the housing. I then held the same shaft up to the back of tge trans housing and there is an inch difference. He's got something in wrong. I'm taking back to him tomorrow with my measuring device.

I looked at my 47RE OD on the bench, tried to like just easily pull out the line up shaft/tool, it did not easily slide out. Been in there 3 or 4 years, yep kinda the worlds longest 47RE rebuild, guess they are not designed to sit that long, it's been covered up. Was going to try to snap a pic for you of the thing.

Tim I just dropped it off to him and he slid his spline shaft in and it wouldn't go in all the way. There are 2 separate spline and apparently it somehow got misaligned. He's going to pull it apart and fix it. I'll Update after I get it back.

Yeah I figure he would have to take it apart again, that's how the book shows it has to be done.

This thread has given me some motivation to get my project off center. There is a show in October, maybe I can get mine back together by then.

I got my '63 flywheel resurfaced, was a neat process was able to watch the shop cut it.

Oh nice , Yeah don't have a machine shop too close to me anymore. The big autopart chain stores bought out the ma and pa stores that all had small machine shops . Yeah get going !

Ok picked up the od unit ,he put his shaft in to show me it was lined up. Brought it home and installed it went in perfect. Drives great no whine. Now next step went to get smog won't pass ,high nox levels , checked the egr and other components all seem to be functioning . I'm going to retard the timing and put some high octane gas in the tank .
