I just purchased a 1989 Dodge Ram Dually 2WD Auto. It is bone stock with yes-----32,000 orginal miles (it was a city service truck). The interior and engine look new. Any thing I need to check or do to it. I have owned five cummins, but not one this old. I notice it isn't intercooled, anyway to fix this. Also---tell me about the injection pump. Is it the p7100? Stuart

I paid $5600. Did I do okay?

if its bone stock, the injection pump is the VE rotory pump.

you can get an intercooler for it. banks and some other make them for it.

I just purchased my first cummins last week. 93 D250. its a great learning process, also sence im only 17:)

Seventeen! I remember my first vehicle, 72' Olds Delta 88 two door w/455 rocket, ohhh the tires were many...

VE pump is correct, non-intercooler really doesn't need to be "fixed". Chrysler went to I/C's to meet emissions, that truck will be quicker than many from the next few years along with a just a few tweaks. The non I/C trucks have bigger injectors, injection lines and more pump timing.

Brand spanking new still. Great buy IMO.

It has low speedo reading. But high idle times milage.

First thing I would do is to change the trans filter and fluid and adjust the bands.

Change rear axle lube. If it has a LS (doughtfull being a city truck) add the mopar additive.

Get a factory service manual. It will help a lot on any repairs you might have to do. Geno's has them. Dodge stoped selling them a couple of years ago.

Enjoy the ride. :D
