Head Lights Go Out - Intermittant

Normally I am on the second gen forum but my son is looking at a 1990 4X4 with an automatic. We don't know anything about this year truck so I was hoping for some insight.

Is the engine block the same as later blocks? i. e. '94-'98) I realize the injection pumps are different.

The auto trans, are they lockup?

Intercooled?

Is the transer case the 205? The reason for the questions is the truck is some distance away so we're trying to determine if it's worth going to look at.

Any thoughts on areas to be aware of? The truck is a reg. cab with 131K so fairly low miles for the year and the owner is asking $3500.

Thanks for any help.

The blocks are the same as a 2nd gen. The head is different. It has 9MM injectors. There are adapters to use 7MM injectors. The pistons are diffrent between a 1st gen and a 2nd. So you don't want to use a set of 7MM 2nd gen tips. The spray angles are different. That year is nonintercooled also.

The truck has a 727 3 spd auto. No OD or lockup. The axles should be 3:08 gearing to cover the nonOD trans. A 47Rh trans would be a good upgrade for that truck. But it is not a straight in swap.

The transfer case is a 205.

$3500 is a good price. Time for a drive.

1990 Non Ic

In stock form having no intercooler is not a problem. Start towing heavy or modify to add more fuel things tend to heat up.

My 90 W-250 has been one hell of a good truck. One voltage regulator and a drivers side window lift motor have been the only non routine items that I've had to replace.

The only thing I love more than my old Dodge is my old dog, both are always ready to go no questions ask!!!!!
