First: What are the largest tires that I can squeeze under my truck with out lift or rubbing? I only have about 6 inches of garage clearance left and I would like to use a few inches of that clearance for tires and leave a few for saftey. I was considering Michelin xzl's which are 36. 4" in dia. , but now (after reading earthroamer in current tdr) I am not sure.

Secondly: What aftermarket bumpers are currently available for these trucks. I really like the original bumper, but I have been striking out looking for replacement step pads (other than stealer), so I was thinking that maybe an aftermarket bumper would be the way to go. I saw a Reunel on a truck in the photo albums, but have no idea if it is still available and what it might cost. Are there any others available. I did search the archives.

Thanks for input on either,

Dan

I'm running 285/75/16 Wrangler MTRs. With no lift. My truck sits fairly level tho. They occasionally rub a small amount on the front fender wells when the truck is under serious suspension flex and turning sharply, such as 4 wheeling over deep ruts or water bars in logging roads, etc. Very minor tho. I recommend the MTRs if you are looking for a good, quiet aggressive traction tire. Only have a couple of thousand miles on mine so far but they seem to be wearing very well. They ain't cheap, tho. :(

I have 33 x 12. 5 x 16. 5's on mine (just because I had a nice set of 16. 5 rims already) and I get very slight rubbing in cetain situations as Rick described (welcome, Rick). These are pretty much the same overall size as a 285/75/16. My front springs may be a bit tired too from carrying that Cummins around for 132,000 miles. :D

I'm interested in a different front bumper also. Preferably something "deer proof". Seems like most aftermarket companies don't know Dodge made trucks before '94.

Well guys , After calling everyone in the world for a bumper, I found out that the 1991 to 1993 Dodge trucks, no one builds a bumper for. So I got a welding shop to build a "deer proof" foreign car eating bumper for me, I drew up some plans and did a little copying from warn classic bumper and then I had them add a built in receiver hitch and holes for off road lights and mounting point for a winch. So when they get it done I will post some photos. They figure my cost is around $325-$350. I also am going to have mine rino liner covered so the VW bugs will wash right off:D ;)

Hey, JFitzgerald, your truck looks exactly like mine! except for the bigger tires and clearance lights. But mine will have bigger tires hopefully in the next 6 months

Steve,

Cool, I have seen one other, same as mine except for regular cab in Brazil, IN. Does yours have a black bumper or chrome? Mine is black, and I can't say I've seen another one that wasn't chrome. When I got it, I figured Dodge must have had the chrome as optional, but it seems odd that an LE would have a painted bumper. I wonder if it was replaced after a wreck or something. There are no other signs of crash damage or repair. Who knows? :D

I didn't know yours was club cab, mines regular cab but I have only seen one other that looks like mine, as far a W250 and the color pattern.

as for the bumper I have never seen one black from the factory,

mine's chrome. Your truck looks pretty good, mine has a really big

dent in the right rear fender where my grandpa jacknifed a trailer

and numerous other smaller dents and scratches, It's a work truck

and BOY :D can she work!

Steve

As long as it does the job, right? You're right, these trucks are made to work, and they do it well. Mine is in real good condition, no dents, but the rockers are rusting. Can't find rust anywhere else on the body. I have new replacement rockers on order and they'll go on soon along with Herculiner on the bottom. The way I look at it is this truck is an investment since the engine will last practically forever, the trick is to keep the rest in good shape so the truck doesn't fall apart around the engine. :)

I have a ruenel on the front of my first gen. I cost about $1200 but I ordered it with the grill gaurd, headlight loops, diamond plate on the top of the bumper and set up for a Warn 12,000# winch. I came painted, deliverd to the house, with all the hardware.

It has not bent yet.

Just this weekend I tried to pull out a Suburban that was stuck. He was stuck so bad that I could not shake him, even yanking on the strap several times. This almost NEVER HAPPENS! A buddy of mine cam up and hooked to the tow hook on the grill gaurd with his truck on 44" swampers and 5:38 gears to help. We still could not flat pull the suburban. Both me and my buddy backed up and yanked VERY hard to finally shake the suburban loose. The ole' Ruenel is still straight and strong!!
