Is/was the OE size 235/85-16?

Guessing you might clear 255/85-16, possibly after a little front bumper adjustment/trimming?

You can clear a 33" tire if you replace the springs with HD version. With the stocker springs they will rub in the front and rear, especially on a bounce.

Those tires are a little short of 33" but you may still need the heavier springs to make them work.

I replaced my d250's stock springs with Moog 7226s springs and was able to clear a 285/70/17 tire on an aftermarket wheel (if you want the offset and backspace numbers I can dig those up for you). I did have to remove the fender trim to stop the tires from rubbing even with the new springs.
