looking for a cummins to chevy adapter kit!!!

Title issues

Hi there,

I just got a really good deal on a 1992 Ford School Bus (Blue Bird) with a 5. 9 210 HP motor with the P7100 IP mated to an Allison MT643. Thinking of using this in a Mid 70's Suburban conversion using the MT643 with a Divorced NP205. Think it will work? I've actually got more than one bus coming as it was such a good price. Going to sell either the drivetrains or the whole bus on Ebay.

I think it work just fine , in fact id talk to a good Allison shop thats been around a long time because you might be able to come up with a t-case that

would bolt to that 205 t-case , non divorced

but ido have a divorced unit here if ya need it

the bus how much , want to put my travel trailer guts in one

That would be really nice if it wasn't divorced. Advanced adapters doesn't make anything from what I can see. I really want to use the 643 as it looks like its built like a tank and it has a great rep.

As far as price for other buses. I really haven't decided what I'm doing yet. I was think on pulling the engines, but now I'm leaning towards registering them, and getting them through inspection so I can drive them for a bit and make sure they are 100%. This would also make it so that the buyer can drive the vehicle home possibly saving a little as it won't be shipped, plus they can come hear it run and even drive it before the purchase. They have been fleet maintained so I don't expect them to be bad, especially being Cummins, but like I say I wouldn't want to buy an engine and then go through all that work to get it in to my conversion only to find out that its a piece o dog doo. They have intercoolers and by buying the whole rig one has everything they need as long as they have space for a bus! If I do part out I have a local junkyard that will take them as they are without the drivetrain, and I get the good tires back. $175 for a tow truck to come take it away to the junkyard. I'm thinking $3,000 for the whole rig.

$3000 for the whole bus including drivetrain. If you are interested, let me know. Just took a deposit on this bus here a 1995 Thomas with a Navistar 7. 3 Sold it to the other bidder. Kinda hard to sell as you get a lot of bogus bids by people with 0 or in this case -2 feedback. Ebay is changing for sure. Not the same place it was 5 years ago when I started.

Id definately like to talk on a bus , not a binder powerd one if at all possible

I will list them on Ebay most likely and I'll let people know when. As far as binding goes, if someone wins the auction and comes here and doesn't want a bus I'm not the type to leave negative feedback, all I ask for is the listing fee which is $40-50 depending on how I list it. I know how hard it can be to buy things long distance. You invest a lot of traveling and emotional time, then you find out it doesn't look as good, or the person fibbed.

This might be a good time to give some more details about the vehicles:

I'll have to look but I think the oldest is a 1992 and the newest which there's only 1 and it's a 1995 (mine with 135K). Most have around 150K on them and were fleet maintained. The one I just drove about 6 mile home the other day is a 92 and it has a 2004 inspection sticker so it has been sitting, some have 2005 stickers. The brakes seemed to work OK on the trip home and when I go home none of them were hot from sticking on which is a good sign. I've picked up fuel and oil filters and engine oil and will change them hopefully today. I will get it inspected and drive it for a while to make sure I'm happy with it. One test I like is a very large long hill here in Vermont on I-89 where I can watch the temps and check the power. One of the buses has the DT-466 in it and I will keep that one also as I'm still deciding if I want to stuff that in a Suburban :--) Lead mechanic said that bus full with kids will do 75 mph.

So the place I'm getting these from wants me to pick up the pace. Well I started pulling one apart. Not to bad so far. Had some stubborn nuts and bolts so I just to my grinder to them. I little more work on linkages and wiring and then I'm ready to start unbolting mounting points, and driveshaft to start pulling it out. May take the transmission out by itself first, haven't decided yet.

I know around my parts in NY you can get whole buses for under a grand. . well well well under a grand... I know several scrap dealers who buy them really cheap... ask around at the schools and the scrap dealers and truck junk yards... I know several bus mechanics . . the p pump engines are pretty good the isbs seem to be losing injection pumps quite often...

Thanks

Deo

Pulled the engine and transmission out in one shot. Wasn't really that bad. Used a 2 foot section of angle iron as a crowbar to inch the hoist forward slowly. Hoist instructions say not to move it with the weight on it as the casters aren't really that strong. Oh well. May have to upgrade them at some point.

What a beast this setup is. Never really pulled big motors. Air cooled VW's as a kid. It wasn't easy but it wasn't really that bad. I cursed more changing the IP and injectors on my GM 6. 5 diesel. That was a PIA. This was fun actually.

Makes me want to pull that DT466.
