One of our service trucks needs the rear end replaced. The right outer hub bearing failed, ruining the hub, breaking the axle and destroying the end of the axle housing. We need to replace the entire rear-end. Truck is out of service and we are pretty desperate! I have checked every salvage yard in the area. Anyone have a suggestion for a complete rear axle? It is the 3. 54 ratio, 2-wheel drive, dual wheel, cab and chassis width (fender dually width is too wide) I would actually prefer a 4. 10 if available.

Thanks for the help!

John

you can look for a rearend from a 80's truck and it should work with no problems you wont have abs in rear but who does any more .

I think I may have just found what you mention. Actually this truck's ABS is still functional, but it will not be with the replacement rear end. It is totally unnecessary on this truck anyway. It has the enclosed utility service box and stays loaded continuously. You could not FORCE the rear tires to lock up if you wanted to!!

Thanks for the info!

This replacement rear should help this truck because it is a 4. 10. The 3. 54 is just too "tall" for a loaded down automatic transmission equipped truck.

Our mechanic is going to pick up the axle tomorrow morning. I hope it works! This truck being down is a heck of an inconvenience!

Darnit! If I had seen this 2 weeks ago, I could have cleared out some space in my shed. But my C&C axle is a 3. 54. 4. 10s are just too slow for my liking. And, I normally up the fuelling, which puts me on a different playing field altogether.

He was supposed to finish it up today. Put on all new brakes, brake lines, wheel cylinders and seals. Bearings and gears looked great! It was out of a Winnebago motor home from the early 80's! The damn thing may be a 5 something ratio! (no tag) It is a nice axle though and that is what matters.

Dpuckett, do you still have yours? If the price is right, I may be interested!
