1993 Electrical Issue - WIper Moter/Alternator

1993 D250 2WD Ext Cab LE



I seem to have blown up my wiper motor, a fuse popped and when I replaced it, the washer fluid pumped came back, but the motor was DOA.



Figuring the motor was pooched, I picked up a new one (leaving the fuse out of the circuit) and drove home. When I went to change out the motor, my battery was dead, and after boosting it, I had no charge showing!!!



I put the battery on a charger and proceeded to change out the motor. I know have two speeds (hi/lo) on my wipers but no intermittent and the blades do not return to the bottom of the windshield. Oh, and now the alterator seems to be working again????



Did I blow something else? Is there a control or reply that might be pooched too? COuld the replace ment motor be defective?



Have I missed something else?



Oh and does any one know what I need to do to get the "Check Engine" light to quit!!!!



I've tried to find a shop manual but I guess I'll have to pony up to Dodge to get one... Cheers

This doesn't address your primary problem, but check www.books4cars.com for a factory manual. They had the best price I could find for my Buick Regal manual at $32. 95.

When you shut off the wipers do they stop at what ever position that occurs or do they just park in the wrong place?



Yes there is a module that controls the intermittent function is is located to the right of the steering column

Here is the procedure from the manual('93)for wipers failing to return to park, or stopping wherever they are when you put the switch to off. 1. remove motor wiring and clean terminals, reconnect and test

2. Put wiper switch in OFF and ignition switch to ACC position. Disconnect motor wiring connector. Connect voltmeter or test lamp to ground strap. Connect other lead to terminal P1 of the wiring connector (a) if voltage not present check for open circuit in the wiring harness, wiper control switch, or fuse.

If voltage is present remove wiper motor from vehicle and connect an ohmeter, or continuity tester between terminals L andP2 on the motor if there is continuity between these terminals the motor is bad if not see (a) above

I hope this gives you a start, if you do a search for the manual, in this forum, you should be able to buy right on line, I did a month ago, It was $59. 00 and came a few days later. I just had to replace my wiper motor as it was failing to work intermittantly or at low speed, must be the season... .
