1993 motor questions?

picked up the 93 motor for the 1970 ford 1 ton today\



whats the big tank about 1/2 gal mounted onthe



passanger side of the block?



my 5 spd does not have one



this motor has the a/t trans,



anybody do the wireing on there????????????/

we pulled the harness at the firewall



i do not know what we will need on the wires?

I believe that the small oblong tank that you are refering to is part of the A/T cooler. Probably, actually, a preheater I think, since the automatic does not route through the radiator with the cummins.

Where did ya find the engine, and how much $$$, if I'm not being too nosy - wouldn't mind locating a decent "project motor" of my own to play with...



And Bill, ya should see the NEAT 600 watt Ameritron solid state amp I installed in my truck - now lotsa power to the wheels AND the airwaves!

dick got the mtr here in town

was going into a bus some yrs ago but never

completed he traded it for a nissan patrol

that was in rough cond and some old tracktor



looks like a low mileage mtr thats sat for a while



my706 on ,am around 27 or 28 mhz's crackles when the motor is going or moving

w/o mtr on something is loose

i plan to go to brandons 11172001 r u?

I'm using a remote 925 amp hour 12 volt battery in my bed mounted tool box to power the amp - of course, the amp is in there too... I then installed a battery isolator and ran a 6 guage wire to keep the remote battery fully topped off. This allows a VERY short main power lead from the battery to the amp for minimal voltage drop, and maintains maximum efficiency to the amp, which is VERY sensitive to voltage drop. I get a full 500 watts out key down, and somewhere over 600 watts PEP on SSB. I'm still using the HamStick monobanders - they DO get a lot warmer, but still holding up so far!



I also added some ventilation openings to the toolbox, and a pair of 12 volt muffin fans that operate whenever the amp is in operation to keep the amp cool and flush hydrogen gas generated by the battery outta the box - imagine the explosion possible from that hydrogen gas and the fuel tank under the tool box!



Not familiar with the get-together n November you speak of - will have to check out the get-together schedule for more info I guess...

I'll have to look into the gell cells - problem is, I have limited vertical clearance, and could only find a *single* group 75 battery that would fit and give the amp capacity I was looking for. The circulation/vent system I have installed should take care of any problems quite nicely, and is needed for the amp anyway...

Just a quick note for what it's worth. The Optima battery is actually a DRY CELL battery and not a gel cell. It is a reasonably compact size and requires NO venting so it can be mounted in a sealed compartment.



The Optima was designed for the space program and has been used regularly in the shuttle. I believe they run in the neighborhood of 875 cold cranking amps and are also available in a deep cycle configuration.



Very Highly Recommended... Even at the $130 price tag.
