I tried dong a search on this question. No luck.

I know some of the 98-1/2s and up 24 valves had them, but I don't about 12 valves.

I'm now shopping for a 3500 12 valve dually, so any advice or directions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, Ray

My '98 12V dually is for sale:D, haven't looked to see if it's a 53 block though. They are out there,53's 12V but doesn't seem to have the same issue as the 24V 53's.

My reading on the forums is that the 53 block used for 12 valves does not have the thin place that the later 53 blocks do.

I've got a 53 12 valve engine and no problems yet. All my research has only found a few isolated cracked blocks. I wouldn't let it stop you from buying a truck with one in it.

The 53 block on a 12v is a completely different part number and different casting than the 24v version which is prone to cracking. In a 12v the 53 block was available right up to when the switch was made to the new motor in December of 1997. The reason the 24v units crack is the amount of material which was removed along the pan rail to allow for faster engine warm ups due to emissions... ... ... Andy

I have had my 98 12v for ten years..... Never even bothered to look. When I bought it new, never knew anything about a 53 block, so I guess I don't need the stress of knowing! LOL

Thanks for all the info. guys.

I'm still shopping.

I going to sell my 71 Chev. 3/4 ton big block first.

I thought it was sold,but?

I don't need or want 3 trucks.

Thanks again, Ray
