I just bought this '95 2500 Pickup. The seller had hesitation problems with the Engine/Transmission at around 40 MPH and thought it needs a new transmission. When I drove it home I kept the overdrive out until I got over 50 MPH and had no problems. There are other things which I'm sure need to be done. Where should I take it to get a good overall inspection? I have called ATS and the person I spoke to there suggested a new T/C. Anyone else have suggestions?

Any history on the truck?

What has been done to the truck If possible find out. I keep a note book on everything. First I would change the oil and filter In the engine and trans. and adjust It to factory spec. Check front end for wear and a good grease job. Then the brakes check front and rear. new air filter and fuel filter. Now that for start. Then steering, check cab conors for rust. Read the forum about the transmission that where you will learn. Nothing runs like a clean truck I have found. Good luck and do your homework.

You may just have a TPS problem. Try hosing down the TPS shaft with contract cleaner and work the throttle linkage back and forth a few times. If that changes the way it works then search this forum for info about the TPS problems and solutions. If that has no affect then some more investigation is needed. Watch the tach when it happens. The TC should not be part of the problem since it works fine with OD locked out. One thing to remember is that a '95 has a 47RH transmission. Later trucks have a 47RE. A solution for a 47RE may not apply to your problem.

I bought my 95 with 112k on it about 7 years ago. It has been a great truck to this point with 218K. I planned on having to overhaul the transmission then, but it keeps going! I normally leave OD off until I am out of town. My TPS has always given trouble. I have found a good soaking with WD40 keeps it working between oil changes at 5K. My 'puter is brain dead and I get a nasty shake when the transmission tries to lock up at low rpm. I have used a switch per TST to control lockup since I bought it. The best mod I did was adding a #6 plate back then. Today I would probably go with a #10 and GSK. So far no mechanical failures. I have replaced shocks, all front end parts, and completely overhauled front and rear brakes and left rear axle seal. Good luck with yours and smoke some PSDs!
