Just purchased '95 std. cab, 2WD, auto trans. , 97K. Crawled under this
weekend to replace the leaking return fuel line (thanx for all the help on
that chore), and much to my pleasant surprise, I see a bright and shinny
rebuilt trans. Let's assume for arguement that it is a OEM spec. rebuild.
Can I tell if the T/C is new/reblt. by removing the sheetmetal inspection
cover? What should I look for?
Assuming a rebuilt TC & trannie, would a reworked VB be the correct thing to
do NOW?
Thanks, great web site.

I really dunno Mike. When I recently replaced my TC it didn't look any different then it did the first time I looked at it. You might check and see if it has a drain plug. The stock TC doesn't have one. A VB upgrade would help, but not as much as a good TC. You might want to check all the recent posts regarding DTT products. If you've got the coin, you should put a DTT TC and VB in. If yours is stock you will be pleasently surprised at the difference. Before doing anything, you might make an effort to contact the previous owner about the tranmission. Check the RPM drop when the TCC locks up. If it's stock it will drop something like 300 RPM.
