Hi all.

My fuel filter started leaking, dripping pretty good. The leak was around the seal. The filter was tight and was new as of 2 or 3 wks ago. I pushed up on the water drain and all that came out was diesel. On all my other filters, when I did that, nothing came out ... no water I guess.

What happened to the filter? Did it fail internally or did it clog?

Of course, I was out of town, in Las Vegas. I got a new filter, found a dirt lot & changed it ... PIA!!! No leak now.

If the leak was around the seal, often times there were two gaskets stacked on top of each other on the inlet pipe. Sometimes people will forget to remove the old one and the outer seal won't work with two on the inside.

The other thing that happens(and has happened to me), is that there can be a manufacturing defect in the canister where the seam right at the top of the filter leaks. This is slightly below the seal though and I would suspect you could see the difference.

Sounds like a pain but at least it works now.

It is normal to get diesel from the drain valve. Water (if any) will come out first then diesel.

If the truck was running good then your filter wasn't plugged.
