I've found there is more storage for stuff in my 96 2500 reg cab than on the 2016 crew cab since there isn't storage behind the rear seat.

I had 2 50" long x 18" wide tool boxes and headache rack on my old 8' bed but now have the 6.4' bed.

So:

- What have you done to store stuff in your new truck if the space behind the seat on your reg cab was full?

- Also debating on new tool boxes and headache rack - but I've got a short bed - or possibly go with a cap with tool boxes in it. What have you found to be good for you and why.
- I've considered shorter or narrower boxes - or maybe just one of the slimline boxes up front - but that would still use up 12" of my bed.

- If I go the toolbox route - what have you done to store stuff in the bed and protect it from the elements? I'm thinking of/about when I need to transport my son's crap to/from college.

Thanks!

wyosteve - No, that wouldn't have been the answer. I didn't want to spend that much more money on a truck. The Mega cabs were close to invoice price. This one I got for $12,500 below MSRP. Got any helpful Ideas?

slingshot383 - I thought about that but haven't looked into it yet. Have you done something similar? If so, what did you do to make the seats tilt forward yet still easily latch to stay back in case of an accident? Looking down the back of the seat I see the top is VERY close to the inner panel of the truck. There seems to be space towards the bottom which would be great to hide stuff there.

I have the mega cab and keep a few things under/behind the seat. I also put an ARE cap with side lift windows on it and keep a tool box ,a boonie box, tire tool, cooler, and a tote with straps ect.
I also keep an emergency kit as well. I have trailers if I need to carry something large or dirty. just my $.02

4 wheelssmoking - Great to hear. I've been looking at the ARE caps with the flip up doors and toolboxes - I think the DCU version (aluminum). What version do you have - the aluminum or the fiberglass. Any recommendations for toolbox (one side or both) and/or the various divider options.

Any idea how heavy it is? (ease of removal) . Problem is when needing to haul something tall - yea, I could use a trailer, but I'd rather just use the truck if it is long distance.

Oh yea, are you using the clamps or bolts? If clamps how sturdy are they?

I have the MX series with the windoors, also added the optional led interior light rope. I use the clamps, they are quite strong and convenient if removing occasionally .
ARE lists the weight at 200#, so not too heavy . Two able bodies could probably remove/install it.
