1996 to 1999 MB E300 diesel

I have been considering buying one of these cars for a daily driver to work and back. I know they are good running cars. Are these built to go for long miles or will I have to constantly maintain them like the 80's models on the valves. Cause I would not like that. I have seen a few of these cars on CL locally for less than 5k and look pretty nice. Not too many of them out there. Anyone else have one of these cars? Is there anything I should look for besides blow by?
