2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Wtf?

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Another "53" block question

Hello, need some p7100 tech advice. I worked on a 1997 2wd today and before starting work on the pump, I test drove truck and it was slow on the road for a 215 hp pump. So I installed a #100 to try but the power did not increase.

I have checked the shut off solenoid (good) turbo (good) new fuel filter.

I plugged in a boost gauge and it only went to 10 psi.

This seems fuel related. I also fixed the idle which was low to begin with at 250 rpms.

Truck has 570,000 k or 356,250 miles.

The truck doesn't even blow much smoke at all, even with the plate installed.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that when truck is floored from idle to past 2,000 rpms, it misses a bit.

I have a spare OFV that I can try.

SRay;

is the OFV one that can be checked for spring length? if it is the spring should be , . 550" long. Thats just a hair over 1/2 " in length. If its short becareful on stretching it, might break.

Also where did you set the #100 plate? where is the cover adjusted to? how far forward? Check for AFC leaks.

MLee: the OFV can be checked. I'll check the spring and see if it's . 550"

The #100 is all the way forward and the cover is all the way forward too.

If there are boost leaks, the truck should be smoking quite a bit as the #100 fuels heavy even before boost starts but with this truck it doesn't smoke at all. Just a tiny puff.

18 to 24 at idle 30-35 at 2500 no load.

I just replaced the ofv for the second time in 3 weeks. I'd go with the tork tec for sure.

MLee, Axtell3:

I had just seen the tork tek OFV on the Internet yesterday. I was gonna ask for opinions but now the two of you's said its very good.

I wonder what I should put on mine if I was to get around 500-700hp someday. (need clutch first) there were several sizes of Tork Tek OFV available.

Axtell3: what did your truck do when both OFV failed?

HSmith: That's what I figured. Mine is everything full forward and it does smoke like a Freight train. (But with a controlled foot, smoke is barely visible and I don't want to upset the enviro cautious people, but at the tracks and sled pull events, it's all fun!)

I'm trying to figure out why no fuel there. People above said OFV which I have a spare to try.

My truck is basicly stock other than transmission mods, and is used to haul a landscape trailer daily. It may have been sluggish, I think it's a bit snappier now. Since I havn't monkeyed with fueling( yet ) I can't really say. Found out I had a problem when I got my guages installed.

First: the torq tek overflow valves are great. Make sure to check pressure with a gauge as the "preset" is lower than 20lbs.

Second: low power and low boost could be a damaged AFC diaphragm. Also what governor springs are you running? What is the timing set at?

Jkosten: this is my buddy's 1997, mine doesn't use afc and when I had a large boost leak, my truck still smoked a lot. This 1997 doesn't.

Do afc's seize or anything?

Truck has stock gov springs and timing is factory set at 13. 5° unless it moved over time.

The afc could seize, but not that common.

So how do you not have an AFC? Do you have an LDA instead?

Jkosten: afc is there but not used that much. It's been ground off at the foot for more fueling while still being somewhat used.
