When removing the right front axle to replace the u joints, do I need to worry about anything falling as I slide the axle out? Like a shift fork or anything for the 4wd. Should I have the transfer case in 2 or 4wd or does it make any difference?

Thanks,

Ron:confused:

Not a whole lot to worry about. Likely you've already got the fluid drained from the axle, or jacked up nice and high on that side. It is a good idea to pull the Center Axle Disconnect out, it's just 4 bolts and you can seal it back up with silicone. Pulling that will allow you to pull the lock collar out so when you put everything back together you can make sure it isn't in the way. Really is a good idea to put new seals in if they're more than a few years old, the axle lube tends to dry them out and when you put the axles back in you're very likely to damage a dry brittle seal.

Thanks for the reply. I've done this before & did replace the seals but couldn't remember if I had to put it in 2 or 4wd. Didn't really want to unbolt more than I had to. I'm only replacing the ujoint while I have it apart to replace a worn ball joint. Thanks for reminding me about raising the axle as I did not drain it.

Thanks for the advice. I had it apart before I saw the last post and didn't put it in 4WD. I didn't have any problems and everything is back together and working. Thanks to all who replied!
