I have a 1997 CTD with about 140k miles on it. Stock plate slid forward and a governor spring kit. EGT and Boost Gauges. Thats all the mods.

It starts and runs fine cold but then when it warms up a bit it has no power and hitting the throttle harder actually causes it to slow down even more. I am wondering if there is a problem with starving for fuel, failing lift pump, bad Injector Pump, or the rubber fuel supply/return lines from the tank to the pump??????

I drove up a hill last night at 25 MPH It feels like I have a VW engine. On the flat or down hill I can get up to about 60 with no power. Does anyone have any ideas???

By the way a couple weeks ago my rear tank bracet broke causing the back end of the tank to drop way lower than normal. I strapped it up and I am waiting for the new hanger bracket to arrive via UPS. I am starting to wonder if I have a crushed, kinked, or bent fuel line or fuel pick up/fuel sender assembly. I am going to check this tomorrow morning and I am going to change the fuel filter again just for grins.

Does anyone have Peers phone number, I lost it when I moved recently.

Any and all suggestions will be welcomed.

Thank you.

You are most likely running out of fuel. Check the fuel pressure to the P7100 pump. TST offers an adapter that goes into the banjo bolt that has the bleeder screw on it, on top of the fuel filter. You can run a gauge from that adapter. From that diagnosis, consider the lift pump, fuel filter, overflow valve, and feed system from the tank. Also check the fuel shutoff solenoid to make sure that it is pulling the fuel lever on the side of the P7100 injection pump all the way up.

Lift pump strainer

Check the fuel bowl strainer on your lift pump. When your tank bracket let loose it might have jared loose some deposits in the tank. Just spin it off an clean off the screen filter. Its a 5 minute job and you might be surprised at what you find in there.
