I'm new to TDR. I was looking for advise on after market turbos. I'm looking at a BD Super B. My truck puts out 32 psi boost now. Looking for a little more. Thanks for any advise/experiences you can give.

The BD super B is simply a Schwitzer S300g. similar to an HTBG from HTT also. It should spool similar to your stock turbo, and flow a little more air.

FWIW, its not boost your looking for. Its density. More boost doesnt mean more hp. A larger mass of air does. This is why compressor maps show lb/sec or kgs/sec. CFM doesnt mean much.

Thanks Jeff. Can you shed some light on stock, moderate, and huge lb/sec. numbers for turbos? Can I assume that larger lb/sec means bigger turbos which equals longer spool up time or turbo lag off the bottom?

Thank you.

Approximate lbs/hr figures can be derived from inducer diameters. Here are a few examples...

59mm ~60lbs/hr

62mm ~65lbs/hr

64mm ~70lbs/hr

those are just rough figures, in the ball park.

62 mm and below are generally considered perfect driving/towing turbos (not to say larger than 62 cant be... ).

Turbine housing/wheel choice is often the most overlooked part of the turbo selection. to small of housing, and surge will be more likely. to large, and it becomes laggy.

I just installed the Super B on my truck. Really spools up and is quiet. Course, the old HX35 w/16 housing did also. The test will be next week when I hook up the 5th wheel. Now, if I could just get the BD exhaust brake to work right.

Ive been pretty happy with my Super B. I need something bigger, but its a GREAT towing turbo. Seems to keep the EGTs in check unless you get real stupid, and it lights instantly which is always nice. For what I paid for it, I couldnt be happier. Im surprised to hear that the Super B is "quiet". Mine whistles pretty loudly, but my air filter might have something to do with it... ... that being said, I wish it was louder

Have you hooked up to the trailer? I have a 1995 3500 I want to upgrade to a larger turbo so I can better pull the trailer up the hills, all 10,000+ of it. Please share your experiences. Thank you in advance.
Tony

Just thinking that if you upgrade your turbo, maybe you want to sell me the old Super B? I'm not trying to win any races, for now at least, just want to pull my trailer up the hill at a reasonable speed.
