I just bought a Larry B's fuel line and return replacement hose/clamp kit for my 1998 12 valve engine.

It's a piece of 3/8" and 5/16" tubings of the right length. Where I unclamped the hoses from the engine end with the clips I have a possible problem. I removed the plastic clips from the fuel lines but it only leaves about an inch of smooth tubing to clamp to. Is this all I use or do I need to get a tubing cutter and remove the part of the metal fuel line with the clip ridge. I can't get the tubing over these ridges. I have a long trip scheduled tomorrow and need help and advice.

I need it right before the drive. Thanks, Herb:eek:

Heb, seeing as you are in the position, I'd double clamp both lines and go on. I've done this on the side of the road before, after losing my return line... . it takes a while for the block to cool off!! Luckily, I had some fuel line in my tool boxes. It had to be replaced at a later date, as the diesel started to eat it, but it ran over a year before I noticed it dripping. I had almost forgotten about it up to that point. When you get back, if you are still worried about it, try to find a quick connector that has a hose barb on it, and connect that to the fuel lines with clamps. More likely than not, I'd wager that you'll be fine with just clamps. The supply line side shouldn't have any problems.

I`d double clamp on the smooth area you have. . Rough it up with some sandpaper first, and make sure its not oily before attaching the hose.

On my old 96, I ran a single piece of marine diesel tubing from the tank to the fuel filter, then from the return on the pump to the tank again. . no splices, just one long run. Then again, my steel return line was bleeding diesel, mebe yours isnt.

good luck
