Can you guys with 1998 12-valve engines PLEASE look at your truck and let me know if the main engine harness connects to your underhood relay/fuse center with on large bolted-down connector OR has 3 connectors (like all 97 and previous harnesses I've seen) on the firewall in front of the driver connecting it to the rest of the trucks wiring??? The connection(s) I'm talking about here are on the driver's side opposite the side of the engine bay where the PCM is. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I'm trying to figure out when/if the changed the harness from the 3 to the 1 so I can figure out if I need to splice up my own harness...

Hey Blu -

I took a quick look-see at my truck. Opening the fuse center cover and looking at it from the drivers side fender, at the right rear is a big honkin connector with a brass screw in the top. To it's left is the positive and negative leads to the battery.

Is this what you are looking for?

I must warn you: I can change oil with the best of them but mechanically I am not very good so take my advice with a grain of salt the size of Toledo!

BTW - build date of 11/97 on the door tag.

Hope this helps

Steve

Thanks guys

What a relief! I was starting to think I may be SOL with some oddball V10 harness/relay center...

I guess my next question would be: is there anyone out there with a 98 12-valve that has the 3 connectors on the firewall?

Please keep any and all respsonses coming! I appreciate your help!

Thanks!

Thanks to you guys, I went ahead and got the right harness. Turns out they only made this particular setup for about 3 months - all other 12V rucks are different. I assume it was because the truck was actually wired for the 24V, but they made up a different engine harness for those 3 months they put the 12 valves in the 1998 trucks.

Anyway, all worked out well and the truck is now running at least. Believe it or not, even the V10 inst cluster works (at least all the gauges) and is accurate (verified with a scan tool). I did have to figure out how to run the fuel shut down solenoid, since the engine/body harness in the gas trucks is not equipped with the terminals or wires (but the empty relay spaces are there) for the shut off solenoid, the fuel heater, or the intake air heater, but I'll eave those alone for now.

Thanks for your help guys - I looked at countless harnesses and searched for 2-3 months to get one that would work for my truck. Couldn't have done it without you.
