Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 1998.5 Cummins 24 valve with no casting numbers for block 53

If you have no numbers stamped below your vp44 pump could it still be a block 53 or is it a block 56?

To look and see if you have the 53 coded block the place to look is front left side of block- just above the oil-pan rail... ... ... ...

I have looked there but have no casting numbers so is this a good thing? I HOPE

My block is the same way, I don't have any casting #s on it.

some are stamped on the right side. some are on both sides.

The number 53 is NOT stamped, it is a raised number that was part of the casting process. If there is no number then it should be a taco block (cast in Mexico). The taco blocks seem to be the heaviest and best ones out.

Last weekend I pulled the vacuum pump / power steering unit to fix an oil leak. With all the wires loose and out of the way, all I could see was the letter A and some numbers. I remember when I ordered mine they told me 4 months because the motors were on short supply.

Yeah I don't have any numbers on the block like the large "53" I've seen. When I was at the Bomb party at Harolds a few guys looked and they didn't find anything either.
