Fuel pressure gauge ?. Any codes stored ?. Auto Zone will read for free. Last time fuel filter was changed ?. If you do not have a fuel pressure gauge you should get one as it can help narrow problems and help you maintain your expensive VP.

Yes the crank position sensor could cause it to stall. I believe you have a cam shaft position sensor that could cause problems. I would have to check my freightliner book to see if it does.

Also check all grounds. There is one next to the pass. side batt. that is often missed. Check the connector on the firewall that has a white bale on it. Mine was doing what yours is, after lots of different things I found that connection loose.

along those lines of bad grounds and electrical. Truck will drive fine start hiccuping . iwill pull over sit for five mins. . restart and drive fine. Is this possibably a ecm going out

A bad crank sensor will cause a fluctuating tach. Once shut off they will generally cause a no start condition. Your problem could be alot of things, as said above if you have a CEL you need to have the codes pulled up to help narrow the problem down.*

Yes. That is what mine was doing. Once it ran good for two days then acted up.

Fuel psi gauge before anything it doesn't have to be anything fancy on a 98 you can plug into the fitting on top of the fuel filter one port reads before the filter one after the fuel goes through the filter . I just used a hydraulic hose with a liquid filled gauge taped to the windshield that's where a hydraulic hose is handy because it won't pinch the fuel going to the gauge when you close the hood on the hose . Or you can go spend a lot of money and have a real gauge that you can mount in the cab and monitor all the time which would be the best but for trouble shooting it doesn't need to be that fancy
