I am not sure what the FSM says the minimum oil pressure should be but this link, http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Facts/96specs.html , says that the oil pump should flow 20GPM.
I do know that when I was dealing with my oil pressure switch problem, I put a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the cab. Engine oil pressure at idle: cold=85+, engine temp 180*=30-40+ and that is on a high mileage engine. The oil pressure was taken off the small outlet on top of oil filter bracket.

The gauges are prone to false read at low RPM's. Mine would drop to zero with engine hot coming to an idle. Geno's has updated pressure senders.

Not sure if the oil pumps are different but mine is certainly higher than that. At operating temp I'm a solid 40psi at idle manual gauge)

It isn't a difference in pumps, it is a difference in bearing clearances. The spec range is enough to drop the pressure when the clearances are at the higher side. I have also read, but can not confirm, that '98 and newer gauges are not much better than idiot lights. IOW, they don't really show the actual pressure.

Actually, my dash gauge appears to be pretty consistent with my manual gauge from what I can tell. I can't say that its exact as there are only 2 numbers on the dash to go by and everything in between I have to guesstimate, but the numbers/lines the needle does come into contact with is in line with my manual.

Mine also might be an early enough model that it avoided the "smart" programming.:-laf

From what I can determine, the oil port on top of my filter housing isn't restricted by the regulator that is in the engine oil galleys. I have an Isspro EV2 sensor mounted there. My oil pressure from that port will peg the 100 psi gauge when cold with a little throttle. When at operating temps it will still go to 80+, even though my stock gauge is in the normal range in both instances. I do get the normal higher pressure on the stock gauge when cold. I have another EV2 sensor for fuel pressure. Both are wired to a triple pole, double throw toggle so I can select which I want to monitor.
