My PU has worn tie rods (ruined the right front tire at 20k miles). I can't do the work myself as I'm in a sling after rotator cuff surgery. Took it to a shop close by and the mechanic quoted $1100.00. I think that is way out of line but need some experienced folks to let me know if their is usually more than tie rods typically required. The 2500 has 150k miles on it, and highway use only, no towing.

Thanks,

Ron

Run far and fast. Unless they found other components that need replaced charging $1100.00 for that job should be a criminal offense.

C'mon guys, need a little information on what this job should cost so I don't get hosed. Thanks for your help RNelso, thats a data point.

OK, look at it like this. A complete set of tie rod ends can be had at your common auto parts store for around $200-$300 bucks depending on quality and brand. Going with the higher end price of $300 bucks which I'm sure is well over what they will have in parts, thats leaving $800 in labor charges for them to screw in a few tie rod ends. You didn't say whether or not an alignment was even included in that price or not, but either way if this is all they are doing that price is way out of line. I would go get another estimate.
RNelsos lower ball joint job is more labor intensive than your tie rod end replacement so not really a good comparison.
