I have a 99 3500 with 250.000 + miles on it. I have always used Fleetgaurd fuel and oil filters and antifreeze in this truck from the start. Was wondering if WIX filters are just has good. Also does anyone use the Lucas Oil Stablizer in their 5.9 with good or bad results. Just checking these out to keep the old girl running has good has she always has

I have used wix filters no problems I like fleetgaurd but don't always get to the case dealer to get them. I've used Lucas but I wouldn't recommend it I tried some to slow some hydraulic leaks on a tractor all I got was slow hydraulics and slipping diff lock clutches and wet brakes it has it's uses in sealing old junk equipment or limping something along but it's not something I would use in anything I really rely on if you got leaks fix em you can buy the seals a lot of times for what Lucas costs .

If you use the Stratapore oil filter you'll want to see if Wix has a synthetic media filter to be comparable. But it's tough to top a Stratapore oil filter. One thing you often notice with other brand filters is fewer and/or smaller oil flow holes.

I think Wix are fine filters. I have been experimenting with the venturi filters the last few oil changes - they are combination full flow and bypass all in one can. Tried a Baldwin first due to lower cost, last 2 I am using the Fleetguard Stratapores at $40 bucks a pop, but the concept is great, and their design is patented and better than the Baldwin version, because they can't copy it (yet).

I would shy away from the Lucas oil stabilizer - it is basically nothing but super thick base oil with little to no additives in it (according to people on BITOG who have sent samples in for analysis). Now Lucas engine/motor oil itself, I think it is good stuff, and have used it when truck was newer until I switched to synthetics.

I prefer the Donaldson ELF 7349. It is rated 98.7% efficient @ 15um, and 60% @ 7um. The ELF7349 is what Amsoil uses for their filters in the 5.9/6.7 applications (EAO-80) and rates it up to 25k miles (with synthetic oil).

Hey Drag Racer, where are you buying your Stratopores from? I thought I saw them advertised in Geno's for around $14 or $15 per filter. I didn't pay too much attention so maybe it was a different Fleetguard. $40 is crazy high considering the ELF7349 can be had for $12- $13.

Lf3894 is the micro glass it's 20 bucks at case ih dealer I think the only difference between it and the one genos sells is the fluted bottom on the can

Threads like this are never going to tell you anything you "need" to know since there's something very passionate about what oil someone uses. My suggestion is just use what you've been using and call it good. Dont get all caught up in the hype of miracle products, just use quality products.

Geno's and get the 3 in 0ne filter kit, hare to beat and a good price. Used them exclusivly on my 99 2500 for years now along with T-6 syn Rotella and good luck all around now with 220K.
