Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 1999 automatic will only start in huetral

I have a 99 cummins with an automatic. I am having a hard time starting it. It will only turn over and start in neutral now. I have been told that the neutral safety switch in the column is bad. Please let me know how hard and how much time it takes to fix this problem. Thanks
